View Full Version : Normal maps and software render
trancor 09-05-2008, 10:39 PM I was wondering if there was a way to make normal maps actually look good in software render.
It always looks like the bumps are like 5 times deeper than they should be (even with ray tracing on), but I turn on mental ray and it's beautiful.

You could try with pixeros maya shader. http://pixero.com/downloads_maya.html but besides that I dont think theres any way of rendering a tangent space normal map in software (it treats it as a regular bump map).
