Hi, i'm not new but always afraid to post my work on CG, sooo many way talented people here it makes my courage vanish away...
But i love this place, soooo... I've been putting some nerve into my drawings and made a little memory photo album for cat woman ( i named her KATwoman)
Here u will see some of her memories from her every day's life, her every day stuff.
I thought that was funny.
Anyway, i hope for some opinions (if i'm lucky enough) :P

lol...i just love the one where batman is pulling on catwoman, and Spiderman and wolverine are in the background…its really cute,...yea i myself love more of the cartooish feel, and that style and with Donatello i decided to go another way and try and make it feel as realistic as i possibly can, and i'm glad u enjoyed it :)...if i can ask, wht's usually ur inspiration or how is it that you got that style, which is vary distinct…cant wait to see more
Well, at firs (many years ago) i was influenced by manga and anime cause that was the first that entered my country after the communism was down. Then after a lot of practice i remembered about my PiF comics and wanted to find more about french BD. I searched the net and buy LANfeust (a wonderful french comic magazine) and i fell in love with french style of BD. I am vary sad that in my country people don't understand that comic books are a piece of art and they don't buy them and don't appreciate them. That's why i can't buy many comics from the stores, only on internet.
The saddest thing for me as an illustrator is that i can't get information about illustration or comic books from the shops, only from the net. And i kinda feel the need to be traned by a older illustrator and a more experienced one. To talk to him (or her), to teach me things that i can't steal from their works :P cause that's what i did till now. I studyed the grat illustration and try to steal as many things as posible to develope my tehnique, cause it's no one here to help me though i went to arts high school and university the teachers here are not experienced in illustration or comics, and that makes me very sad.
The style it's the produce of many ears of hard practice by my self, and stealing from other foreign internet artists, that's all.
And thanx again for your time spent here :D
hey i opened a poll.
i'd really love to find out peoples personal opinion on this matter.
vote pls!
thanx.

In my humble opinion, both cartoonish and realistic art can be very expressive. I do think it's "easier" to create expressive cartoonish art though, as you can exaggerate proportions and characters a lot more to emphasize the expression.
Having said that, I do love urban/cartoonish art. For instance I think Redfrog's Urban Sketch thread on these boards is one of the most refreshing threads I've seen here for quite a while.
I think the opposite: it's harder to express feelings trough your art than copy the nature. I'm not saying all realistic art is the same but a very big part of it it's just mirroring the reality without saying more...
The cartoonish style is more like a dream u can do what ever and it's still original and a fresh idea.
That's what i think abut these things.
I'm working now at a realistic digital painting to see what is like to do stuff like that. :D
Maybe i'll post here some work in progress :D
Thanx a lot for the comments and voting, it makes me happy!

Now you're mixing two things up though; realism and just copying things. You're making it sound as if you cannot express your feelings without crossing the boundaries of realism, because then you're just copying something that already exists, which is nonsense. You have to be more subtle perhaps, but you can definitely express anything you want in realism.
I think we can agree on one thing; Creating something to express a certain feeling, atmosphere or idea is a lot harder than just looking at something and copying it. But I think it's an even bigger challenge to express yourself and still keep things in a realistic style. Look at it this way; it's a lot harder to paint a realistic human face that's looking at an object as if it's the cutest thing he/she ever saw (and make it look convincing!) than it is to paint a stylized/cartoonish characer doing the same, because in the latter you can bend things a lot further to emphasize the thing you're trying to express.

My question being, how experienced are you in painting realism to make such a judgement?
Quite often, your arguement is used by those lacking the technical skills of proper perspective, proportion, lighting, form, and color, to defend their argument.
Norman Rockwell managed to express all types of feelings, usually pleasant ones with his illustrations. So did Maxwell Parrish. So does Justin Sweet, Odd Nerdrum, and countless other artists who are decent draughtsmen as well as creative souls.
This is NOT to say I don't like your works. I do. I love cats, I love the almost woodcut style of these works, and I love the way you paint expressions. Your particular emotional illustrative style DOES work quite well for you. I merely question the blanket judgement against realism.
You should consider having these made as t-shirts through Cafe Press or somewhere. They are some wonderfully POWERFUL graphics. Seriously.

am... ok... so, i know i don't speak English very well, and i can't express my ideas as well as Hecatomb here, but my opinion was similar to what he said. I wasn't talking about all realistic art (as i said in my previous) i was saing that many draw realistic stuff to display their extraordinary skills but not many impress.
For example, i like this guy a lot : http://enayla.cgsociety.org/gallery/320963/
I won't show u the contra example on this site cause you'll kill me :D judging your reaction till now. This is my personal opinion and i have the right to have one.
And so u know, i'v been in arts school since my first year of school, i did the high school there too and the Art University (and having the master right now) ... so i think i have some idea about art. I just try to accommodate with digital realist stuff (they don't teach that at school, you know, and that is the sad part) and not fall in the dangerous zone of kitsch.
CybrGfx, that was my idea too, to make a series of KATwoman T-shirts :D i was talking to the other graphic artists at work about this and since you imagine that too it means it's a good idea, thanx!

I think you'd upset Linda by calling her a guy, but yeah, I like her work too. ;)

Okay, I understand now.
Yes, you are VERY right. There are some people that can paint "more real than real," better than a camera. But that does not make it "good" art. Just more real than real...
While I like good realist art, I find it much harder to locate. In today's world, art dictates more that expressions be "individual," with less focus on technical expertise, and more on simplied shapes and colors, with little to no depth, and many times little to no real skill, either.
Again, these do NOT fall into that category.
If you offer these as t-shirts through cafepress or another established outlet, PM me. I want the old cat mother!

ZUXA!
You were kind enough to direct me to your CafePress page (http://www.cafepress.com/KATbyXiU), so I ordered a t-shirt last week, and it just arrived! HOORAY! Very good quality. Next time, paint your images at 300 ppi, though, so they can print much larger!
Keep painting!
