Hi cgt,

I followed a tut from gnomonology, the making of smile, with alex alvarez in witch he is converting a 8k displacement .tif to .map format..

When im trying something goes wrong.. ->

C:\>imf_copy.exe -p TrexBasemesh_MyOwn_singleUVRoadkill1001+R32.tif TrexBasemesh
_MyOwn_singleUVRoadkill1001+R32.map
IMG 0.0 error: TrexBasemesh_MyOwn_singleUVRoadkill1001+R32.map: can't open fil
e for reading (Not enough storage is available to process this command.)
MAIN 0.0 fatal: imf_copy.exe: cannot create TrexBasemesh_MyOwn_singleUVRoadkill
1001+R32.map

I have xp 64 bit and 4gb of ram and lots of space on my discs..

Anyone knows what do do?

Thanks/
Sigge

I'd assume that if you had 64bit maya installed that those utilities would also be 64bit but I can't confirm that they are

sorry gmask didnt understand what u mean.. i can successfully convert 4k but not 8k.. it looks like the 8k .map file is created (it pops up a 1gb .map file in explorer.. but corupt) but i get the error above in cmd and the .map can't be loaded in the shader in maya..

I'm saying it doesn't matter if you are running 64bit and have 8 gbs of ram if your application is only 32 bit. Are you indeed running Maya 64bit (if so I guess we can assume that imf_copy is indeed 64bit as well).

But I guess since Alvarez is able to do it then you should beable to.. I dunno

are you using the x64 version of maya? the imf_copy included with that would hopefuly be x64 compiled as well.

but even with all these things, maybe 4gb of ram isn't enough for an 8k conversion? maybe someone else can confirm a success. ill try to do a test later.

ok i did succeed

to test i made an 8192x8192 in photoshop and filled it with rendered cloulds filter, saved as a 32bit tif

imf_copy successfully converted it to .map, i used the one that installs with maya x64 2008

i have 4gb of ram running vista x64

i experimented some in ps to, 32 bits .tif with cloud filter;

8k -> no
7k -> no
6k -> yes, imf_copy successfully converted it to .map

i tried with maya 8.5 64.bit installed..

must be something with the memory i think... :/
