modestmouse 06-04-2003, 02:53 AM I am a noob just starting out and am going to get cinema 4D XL in a couple weeks and was wondering what the learning curve is for the software and how easy to use in general it is.
Any information would be greatly appreciatted.

The curve on c4d is AMAZING i was making things in cinema the first day i got it (ahh.....bryce days)
For beginners, this seems to be the best app out there...and by no means is it a "noob app" c4d has many accredidations, awards...and the bestest community on the net*

the learning curve is long and torturus you will e lucky if you are able to make a primative box move in the first year.
after ten years of hard labor and struggling with your personal deamons you may just make an almost human looking head.
no really you can start doing practically anything in the first few weeks. Some people might not like me saying this but I would actually recommend reading the manual before you start seriously modeling. Its a great resource and very reassuring to know that you know the answer to the technical stuff. That way you can worry about the art.

the learning curve for any 3d software is steep.
cinema's is steep....(just less steep than others imho)..and quicker to come out the other side.
that said...it takes time invested...and time to get results you are satisfied with....its well well worth the effort.
i would totally second what JIII says...read read that manual...will be the best thing you could have done...believe me...then start the tuts...for r8...even some r7 ones on maxon site worth looking at...when you feel confident with this some of what youre doing mess about with each tool etc..listen you don't have to finish them...you just have to understand how and what they are trying to teach you...this will then allow you to build on your knowledge.
the other way is just play play play...and learn that way...but you could find yourself running around in circles.
just enjoy it...if you don't like something start with an area you do like etc..

Ya the community seems to be the nicest and most informative I have ever seen.
I think I will read the whole manual and learn ALL the tools because what I find myself doing with most free 3D software I have used is that I will just learn the basics and never make anything that good.
