Holy War

The reign of peace that lasted for a thousand years is over. It had begun with the death of the last great Worm, but now the dragons have returned to Britannia, and their wrath burns as hot as the flames of their vengeance. Smoke rises above the country where hope has dwindled, for this time the people have no champion. In a land of fear and darkness, they pray for a savior.

Now one has come to them. You are Michael, a young man whose former life was torn away in the searing flames of dragonbreath. With no family or future, you stood ready to die. All that was left to you was a silver medallion, enscribed in the runes of the old tongue. The mouth of the worm opened up before you, but as the fire swept around you, the gleaming metal burned at your chest. At the touch of dragonbreath, the amulet bestowed the powers of St. Michael the Dragonsbane upon you. The dragon crumbled beneath your hands. St. Michael had come again.

Now begins your quest to rid Britannia of this scourge once and for all. Seek out the great Dragonbone Cathedral, where St. Michael is entombed with his great sandalwood-handled guns. Dare to put on the ancient battle clothes of the saint, for it is now your task to fight the greatest terrors the land has ever seen. Win through, and the country will stand forever. Fail, and you will be forgotten in a land of charred bones and ash. Does the same blood that flowed through St. Michael's veins flow through yours?

Just starting out!

Eventually I want to do a scene where Michael is battling a dragon, guns ablaze while flames swirl around him. But we'll see how far I get :D

Now that is a concept!
What can i say my friend, jaw droppingly dramatic. Patriotism, Saints, Big Guns, and Dragons. Now you've just gotta make a pic to live up to the story. Looks good so far, keep it up.

Finally, I have some time to work on the challenge! Well, I'll be done school soon, so then I can devote 23 hours a day to 3d :) (I need an hour to eat and sleep, of course).

Lol, that's the spirit!

Good luck with this great concept!

When it comes to 3d I'm a very methodical worker... so, here are the boots :)

I'm surprised I had the time to work on them at all, though. After Friday I'm free as a bird, though!

Wanted to see how it would look in black leather. This isn't quite leather, and it definitely would need texture, but it still looks cool. Not sure if I'll go with a look similar to this in the end (it's a little too "Trinity"), or more with a cloth look.

I think it's pretty cool,in time I believe it will evolve into your own rendition of a trinity style look.Just keep fine tuning and tweaking, and it will come out just right.Quite stylish already actually, just keep going, the TimothyD will come through in the look eventually, your own origianl style, with influences is always cool.Keep :wip:

Virtuoso - thanks, although I may scrap the slick black leather look altogether and go with more of a grungy fabric look.

Here's the latest update:

Next up, modeling a head for this guy.

I guess I should outline the game mechanics a bit. It's a third-person shooter, although Michael will have to use melee weapons as he travels to find the Tomb of St. Michael. And, of course, eventually he'll also have the spear of St. Michael, which is particularily effective at slaying dragons. And my game will have NO cutscenes, except for the introduction and the close. I'm thinking my model/image will belong to the ending, as the introduction has already been described.

Alright, so I lied. No head. But this guy's packing some serious heat, now (even if he can't see where he's shooting yet).

But hey, I see no reason to please the masses if they don't speak up already :p

Hey timothyD, great concept man! I respect someone who takes pride and time in their modeling. I like the sound of the grungy look rather than the trinity look. Sounds like grungy would fit more into the concept of your story to me. Keep working on that head! Everything else really does look great.

I told you your own style would start to show through.;) keep plugging away,it just gets better all the time. But please get a head on this gun toting bad boy,it's only fair that he see's where he's shooting. ;)

Looking good.

It's looking good so far timothyD:) I am not sure about the boots though. Perhaps, since he is a cowboy, you could give him those front rounded type boots with a metal front cap. Also, be sure to add in the tied knots somewhere and the ring on the boots seems a little small, perhaps increasing it's size would surely make it more noticable:p Other then those few small things, it's looking great!!

Keep at it. Now that you are finished school, what better way to spend your vacation but with more work heheheh

looking good!!!!!!
love the overall feel of the clothing... I can definitely see this one as an angel.

Two comments?
a) The boots look a little funny. I like the design, but I'm not sure if they are a couple of sizes too small for this character (it could well be the persepctive) or if they are styled a-la old Japanese anime... which I'm not sure if it goes with the character.

b) I think the sword (spear) that is great for killing dragons belongs to St. Geroge - patron Saint of England. The Archangel Michael would not have a tomb (though he probably sports a really souped up sword also! :) )

Hi. Its looking good. I like the grundge for the clothes idea too. However at first when I scrolled down and saw it just white I thought cool. Perhaps a white color would be cool since he has the powers of a Saint. I like the belts crossing and really like the buckle. I was thinking something looked weird about the boots like some others have mentioned. I think it is because they don't have 3 sections in the sole. You know how most boots would have the traction for the front of the foot then go smooth and up just a little and have another section of traction at the heel. Just some thoughts. Keep up the good work.

Sandpiper - And grungy is how I'll be texturing this guy in the end.

Virtuoso - He's getting a head, don't you worry!

Apt Pupil - this guy isn't a cowboy :) He looks the part of a gunslinger, to be sure, but his clothing is definitely different. The boots will likely stay pretty much the same.

The Rev. - the boots are styled after combat boots, and aren't meant to be exaggerated in any way. They may look too high, perhaps I'll make them a little lower but not too much. About the spear - St. Michael is usually shown with a spear. So is St. George, although I've often seen him wielding a sword.

Wilson 3d - white clothing is something I thought about, perhaps just for the trenchcoat. I'm still not sure about the boots, maybe I will add a heel to it.

Thanks for all your comments!

Just so you know, I'm not dead. I'm not finished with the head yet, but I'm pretty far along with the modeling. I'm mostly working on the eye area right now.

Do to an irrepairable loss of data, I won't be able to finish this contest, because I'm simply not willing to start over. Maybe next time.

If you really want the data back, and are willing to spend some money, you could go to an data recovery company; perhaps they can help you.

Thanks, but I already tried to recover it. I used a program called File Scavenger, which let me regain a lot of data but not all of it. It's not worth the money to hand my drive over to some company who'll analyze the molecules or something.

 I do this challenge to learn, and I learned plenty while modeling... so I haven't really lost much.
