hi, i didnt know where to post this besides a place that would get a lot of employers and people that have been in the business before so here it is... i didnt feel like rephrasing this for a message boards so here is a letter i wrote to the Human Resources department at my school in which they never replied.

....

Hello, I'm a student at AIPH and I have a question that I havent been able to find an answer to. I'm an Animation student and I see a lot of diverse people at the school everyday, some with tattoos and piercings and such and I wonder if this will affect them getting a job in their field in the future.

My question is, if I had tattoos, that were visible if I wore a Tshirt or polo shirt or such, would this effect my job or my chances of getting one. Now I would probably conceal these tattoos at a job interview, but I'm pretty sure I wouldnt be able to conceal them all the time.

I think that self expression is one of the only things left that lets us keep in touch with our true imaginitive skills and I think that is what is important. Now I know that animation is a creative field and there are probably many diverse types of people working in these studios, but I dont know how they work, and by what extent do they judge me as a person as far as appearance. I'm confident that I will have an outstanding portfolio and will make a possible employer really want me to work for them, but will having tattoos make them sway their decision as to whether I will be working for them or not?
anything anyone could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

thanx

Good rule of thumb would be to listen to your own questions...if you do think it will jeapordize your career...then dont do it. Why take the chance?? On the other hand...tattoos are sort of "in" lately....unless you're entire body is covered with tattoos...I wouldnt worry about it. Appearance is a major issue in interviews as you need to display a "professionalism" to your potential employer...so if you have a few tattoos on your shoulders/ thigh, legs, etc...dont worry about it....most of the time...human resource people wont squeal at tattoos unless they cover 90% of your body!! :shame: :buttrock: :applause: :applause: :applause:

You wanna be a banker? Then, no.

Otherwise, the only things that would jeapordise your 3D career won't be found on your skin. If you're uincertain about it, don't don't do it.

he just finished work on Dinotopia... Pretty encouraging, to my freaky tendancies. I think I'll keep growing my beard out, anyway.
Of course I don't dig tatoos, and neither does my friend with all the tatoos, who says that they are just posters that you can't take down, but life is short and often seems much too quiet, so suit yourself.

hey I am completely covered with tattoos and I am the modeling supervisor at Stan Winston Studio(you know Terminator, Jurassic Park, Predatoe, etc..). Every time I go into an interview I make sure a good amount are visible(figuring I am sleeved). Also a lot of my tattooes people would say are tasteless like pentagrams, siamese people, and other satanic things. All I can say is if a company would not hire you because of your tattoos then you probably shouldn't work there. BTW, are you thinking of getting tattoos or are you tattooed already? If you plan on getting tattooed there is one major rule, dont pick anything off the wall because the people that do that are the ones that end up regretting it. Good luck on the job hunting....el diablo
