Hi boys and girls…

Question(s) about upgrading to XSI7! I have two copies of XSI, one ESS 5 and one Adv 6; I am deciding to upgrade only one of them to 7, and sell the other! Because I am only person use it, although I am not new to XSI, but know very little about it. After seeing that power of ICE on 7, can’t wait any more longer!!

As far as I am aware, Behaviour has not been update since V4, so I think it is no point to upgrade it just for Behaviour, I still can use V6 for that; unless that is something new to it that I did not know…

I read from the Softimage site, the Advanced have“…5 XSI Batch rendering licenses “, cannot find anything about batch rendering licenses for Essentials, so that mean Essentials is limited to one PC only, what about satellite rendering, what does it means?

Reason I am asking it’s because I might getting few more PCs for rendering purpose!

Some advises would be good, thanks all.:D

both essentials and adv have satellite rendering options, satellite rendering distributes tiles of the same rendering over to several boxes from one xsi client, that's all.
It can't be started independently from a gui client.
Ess doesn't come with batch licenses.
Processing licenses are, in short XSI without a gui or mray to remote/distribute computing on boxes independently of the main client.
XSI batch is the same of the above but it comes with MRay, so that's what you need for per-frame distribution of rendering (independently from a client too).

Behavior hasn't changed much in recent times, and given what ICE is already capable of, unless you really need what behavior in particular can do, probably doesn't warrant the purchase of adv seats, it's more a bonus than a deal breaker really.

If you plan to use several boxes to render you might want to upgrade your seat of adv and be done with it. It's the best bang for buck to distribute rendering with MRay.

Thanks.:)

If I understand correctly, I am still able to set up 4 PCs for satellite rendering (includes MRay) under Essentials license?

Cheers

Yes, you would be, but satellite rarely is as convenient or stable as per frame distribution.
Just bear that in mind if you happen to need to rely on all the CPUs time for a delivery.
