View Full Version : Demo reel question
thebrianproject 09-03-2008, 12:28 AM So I have been working on a project where all i do is the facial animation. Is it worth it to put this on my demo reel since it is just the face that I worked on? Is there any special way that I should present it, like a facecam playblast, or should i just use the images from the final render?

I recently went to a studio and interviewed them. We talked about what they like to see in a showreel...they said they want to see specifics. If it's not good, leave it out, the shorter the show reel the better. They said they once had someone just send in a walk cycle, the boss saw it and said yep, get them in. Other times they have had short films sent in and it's been a waste of time. They want to know what you want to specialise in. What you are good at. If you are good at animating then you don't even have to texture. Just make sure you tell them what it is you do and give them nice examples of that.
They're a very highly respected firm in Australia, so it was nice of them to share that with me.

Brian, put the final renders in the reel, not the playblast, the people hiring you know what a 3D animation program looks like, they don't need to see the interface, and in fact it detracts from the quality of the reel. (Trust me I made this mistake early on) Just be clear about what you contributed to the shots.
