spirogyro 06-03-2003, 08:53 PM Hey ALL!!!
I'm new to 3d, and this is my first challenge. (Nervous!!!!!!) Anyway my concept is going to be a vehicle, (since I've never made a character yet), for the game "Thunder Crosse." Its a racing game on various tracks and arenas. You dont pick an actual vehicle, but various teams, each having their own vehicles. Each vehicle is equipped differently and at each stage you advance you upgrade your vehicle and artilery. I haven't drawn a concept, but to give you a rough idea, they are going to be part train, part tank, part monster truck. Hope to get started ......and hope to finish!!! I'm really excited and Good Luck to the rest of the crew, I'm looking forward to seeing some nice stuff.

ok so I had some time to work on this. so far Ive got the wheels and probably will start with the guns in a bit. I'd really like to know what you guys think of the wheels. ( might change them)
I'll report back later

already looks nice, but i'm sure you could put a lot more detail in those wheels if you wanted to! :wip:
try to think about how this would look in reality, and model it that way (IF you want it to be realistic) how about modeling some more detailed rims, separate from the tires for example ?
just trying to push you hehe :D

With that construction, You won't be able to turn... only go stright ;) Probably it could work like tank, with varied speed on right/left side...... but turn-able wheels won't harm IMO ;)

 Good point, didn't think about that. Back to the drawing board

Yes the other thing to remember is the link to the wheels has to be the same distance from the centre of the wheel on both otherwise the wheels would would jam.

Looking good
Tip: More Chamfer!!! :D
In regards to the spring, I know in max you can just create a helix spline then just tick off renerable mesh etc, not sure what you're using tho so it could be totally different.

I'm actually using Maya, but I figured it out. Thanks! Anyway, I've begun the body, of the vehicle, and I'm having some trouble. If anyone knows of a good tutorial of polygon modeling a car that would be great. I need some pointers

:banghead: OK, now I'm having problems. I'm trying to rough out the body, but as you can tell i'm having trouble. Since I don't have a good reference, splining a body together would be rather hard, which is why I'm using poly's. If anyone has any ideas, I need them now. Also, does anyone know of any good refernces for engines??? If I can't figure out the body now, I'm gonna start on the rear mounted enging. I can't wait:rolleyes: Thanks all.

Cool idea!
I like the bar connecting the wheels but i think it won't work like it is now. The bar is (i think) always horizontal if the wheels are the same size.
