View Full Version : Help with Modeling
phace 06-03-2003, 07:32 PM Hey, i'm new to 3ds max, and well, I can't seem to get the hang of modeling. I can get side views perfectly, but when it comes to front view, and setting up the views so that I can edit from all sides without it becoming misaligned and whatnot, i'm stumped. Any help is appreciated.

Do you mean modeling in the Perspective viewport?
You could set up a camera(s) so your view(s) are always fixed. This will alleviate some of the disorientation you are experiencing.
This is a tired question but: Have gone through the tutorials and help files in max? These offer a world of advice and insight into the program. discreet didn't include them just for kicks y'know. ;)

My other advise to you is to just keep practicing. Go though all the tutorials you can find for beginners. If you are new to a 3D environment (or Just 3DMax) it will simply take you a while to get adjusted to it. Eventually it will become second nature.

it definitely takes alot of practice to be able to navigate in any 3d software well.
There are a few things you could try.
One of the simplest is a bigger monitor. Seriously. I have a few friends that run dual-monitor with one full-screen viewports and one with the command panels.
Another is to try and work with all four viewports visible as often as possible.
If you are female this should be taken into consideration as well : http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99993628
hope it helps.
P.S. consumer-grade 3d goggles are available for $800 and up!
