Hey thar, Maximus! I can't help but chuckle each time I look at this character! Very very funny! (Hey - there's no "Laughing" Smily!) I'm afraid I have no experience with 3D hair, so I can't give any technical crits. Although what everyone else here has said...
Needs to be fuller.
Seems oddly uniform in front.
There's no hint of a scalp-line
The shadowing looks odd.... Did you do that in PhotoShop? It seems to me rather blobby, and not the broken shadow that hair drops on the scalp.
...That said, I love the bouncyness of it... The energy of it! So, don't lose that, whatever you do! Also the variety of colour works well, and the mussed up look is on the mark.
Elsewhere...
The eyebrows are lookin' pretty flat, and his ear-lobes are looking pretty pointy!
Awesome expression.
Maybe he's happy because he just opened a birthday present, and it's a model of "Bad Bad Monster"?
Is this "for" anything or izzit just for learnin'?
Cheers!

heheh..
This character will use a sci-fi suit (and lasers of course) and will
find the snake monster in some cave....
Lot of things to do!!!
"fuller" : this darn thing takes 2:34 mins to render... imagine in a
full scene... no budget for more detail
"odly uniform in the front" - wow.. what a crit... let me see..
i will try change the shape so gets more non-uniform...
"scalp line" WTF is that ???
"shadowing" .. this is calculated by maya... sorry but cant improve
that...

Yeah he really makes me smile, hes got personality. The start of the hair is looking good. I've yet to find a good workflow for paintfx hair.
The hair looks good although a little bit jaggy. You can get a more antialiased look by rendering the PFX at double the size, which shouldn't take too much longer, then scale it back down and comp it. BTW skin looks good (I made that shader ;) )

Hey Max :D Got your PM
Not really an authority on hair as I haven't dabbled into it much yet. As far as I can gather from watching other people fiddle with it, is that for a good way to animate it you can create a soft body nurbs surface and then use the nurbs curves to create the hair, then use something like 'jiggle' or 'wind' to animate it with. Then I guess it just a matter of having lots of these patches all over to give a thick volume.
But its looking cool at the moment keep experimenting and when you have come up with a good solution be sure to tell me how or write a turorial or something

Hey Maximus I'm utilizing Tomb's shader as well. :D (wonderful shader Tomb)
You mentioned GI_Joe, maybe I should give that a try.
Thx. The skin shader's network looks complicated but it's basically trying to do two things, acheive a reddish falloff (basically this is what translucence in skin is) - Emmanuel Campin's rampcolor script helped me with this and peach fuzz, the little hairs on the skin, which means whiter towards the edges. I used facing ratio for that.
To get the highlights I created a layered shader the top layer for skin highlights only. The bottom layer has large blue highlights which counteracts the redness of the skin amd exaggerates the translucence effect (tip from Steven Stahlberg).
Anyway I'll be quiet now it isn't my thread. :)
