View Full Version : Mapping a complex tree???
AnOldFriend 08-31-2008, 11:51 AM Hello everybody.
So... for a mod project I am trying to map the following tree....

My problem is that I have no clue how to go about mapping such a complex beast so that it looks good...
Anybody know of any methods or any way to map such a thing in max?

Even a pro goes "Dear God No" when presented with mapping a tree. :)
The good news is that each part of the tree really is cylinder, so you could take each portion and unwrap it as a cylinder. The bad part is the seams between each cylindrical projection.
You could try using 3d paint, which will let you paint the bark lines without the need to worry about the seams.
Another option is this...

But that will get really complex the more branches you have.
Anyways, best of luck.

Yeah, I would texture something like that in ZBrush...
Lay out the uvs in UV layout by headus the best you can and then just paint your textures in ZBrush... It's actually an easy way to get pretty rad textures... Well, as far as I know anyway...
