View Full Version : Cinematic Game Icons - character - riki
rickycox 06-03-2003, 03:50 PM this is ma man, maybe an alter ego. I'm not sure what happened to his six pack. Damn he's lookin a little ragged.
I'm thinking that this will probably be some cowboy/western kind of game. Maybe cowboy with moose??? Maybe a bit more John Wayne Gacy or John Wayne Bobbit, than tha Duke, but anyway I'm getting there :)

Hello riki...
Weird concept actually.. Never seen such an idea! But I believe with the quality of your drawing, a great model will come up. very good so far...

I decided to start again, with a tighter/cleaner mesh and bringing it back more towards the original concept.

Thanks Dom, yeah I'd like to push the boundarys of 3d a bit more. It would be great to see some work in a gallery rather than just on screen.

The concept looks very interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing how you're gonna go about rendering this guy!

The model's not bad. :) The real reason I wanted to comment is I think that drawing kicks ass! Sorry to be off topic, but what type of technique did you use to draw it? I love the texture in the highlights. What can ya tell me about it?
I want to see how this one turns out. You HAVE to make sure you include the hair on that little "utter" thing or whatever it is. This has alot of potential (i mean the whole concept not specificaly the utter or wang or whatever it is) ;).
I also agree the the style of the drawing is cool!

Thanks guys, yeah I think the drawing has more energy than the 3d model. I'm still struggling to express my ideas in 3d, whereas drawing was something I've done since childhood.
Uuuggh I couldn't reproduce the technique if I tried. When I draw I just stick my brain into auto-pilot mode, no-need for thinking :)
I like expressive drawings, where someone is slapping the image down, raw sexual energy like Picasso, not fiddly line art which is wrapped too tight.
One of my favorite artists in Mike Parr http://www.shermangalleries.com.au/artists_exhib/artists/parr.html
He only has one arm and I've seen some of his performances where he cuts himself up, but I love his drawings.

If you want to capture the feel of your drawing, try drawing a blueprint style view of the character and use it in the background of modeler. Then, use the drawing as a texture map so you can be doubly sure that the nurbs patches line up with what the drawing is portraying.

That's exactly the technique I used to make my character. The resemblance between the drawing and mesh is surprising. :)

Thanks Nano, I'm checking it out now, the likeness is very close. I'll definately give it a burl.
