Some ridiculous, bizarre, but suprisingly logical, part of my brain told me that if i start a thread early, i'll be more inclined to add to it, reply to comments and heed advice.

WISHFUL THINKING i believe its called.

Any way, heres my place setter so i hope i can keep up with all you amazing artists out there and finish this comp.

IDEAS: The game will be a Post-Apocalyptic FPS. The player takes on the role of an ordinary Joe Bloggs type character.Aim of the game: SURVIVE!
There'll be the usual threat to humanity of course which will make it just that bit harder, A sort of Day of the Triffids (one of my fave books) situation. I'm planning to model the enemy. They are what is gonna make my game rock (hopefully. If not, Bargain basement here we come! :thumbsdow )


With the bad guys i want to try and recreate that sort of spine-tingling, itchy, uncomfortable feeling you get when watching nature programs about spiders and pointy insects. Just a thought, hope i can pull it off.

Ah well, here goes. Goodbye outside world, see you in a month! :p

Good God this is hard work. As a newbie i just want to say nuff respect to all u guys (n gals) who do this every month. Heres a pic of the front mask. Let me know what you think.

N.B. My Scanner is broke at the mo :thumbsdow so i can't post the final sketch. Will do soon tho.

Just realised how badly i explained my idea. Basically my pic will be a frame from the intro to the game showing one of the bosses, (possibly THE boss) - an evil military robotic assasin insect type thang. See, easily explained ;)

BTW- Good luck to one and all - and congats to the moderators 4 thinking up such a great subject.

This sounds interesting, but your picture is awfully dark and hard to make out. Looks like a cool pair of eyes or something, though :p

Its hardly worth posting but i've got nothing else to do so heres a decal i made for the skull casing in photoshop. Got ideas from barcodes, aztec and african tatoos and warpaint etc. 3D version soon.

Sorry to say, but I don't like the display. he's an assasin, he's supposed to be unoticabel. With that display, well.....it just screams: "I'm over here!"

just a thought, what if you placed the display over one of his eyes. But have it somewhat transparent. Kinda cliche' ish, but like I said just a thought. Keep it up though!!

Indeed it does scream. I'll have to adjust the brightness there. Possibly make it smaller with a tinted screen?

I haven't made it very clear but he's only goin to be about 1 and a half feet tall, so the display will only be about 0.5cm anyway. But thanks for the tip. Theres quite a major rework in progress so i'll change that too. Cheers.

Game name: THE DAWN
FPS
Very dark, broody
Post apocalyptic (approx. 2080)
Always night / nuclear dust cloud blocking out sun
Player must learn to survive / 2-3tutorial missions / using medi-kits, night vision, weapons etc.
Player then encounters various challenges / rescuing trapped people(classic hero) / finding supplies / combating robotic 'anomalies' (robots gone haywire) + local wildlife / most testing mission (last) is when about to find out reason for blackout - confronted by swarms of assasin robots (defense systems).

How this all started no-one really knows. They said the darkness was an accident, the result of some nuclear weapon cock-up. They said it was no-ones fault. They said it was someone elses fault. When the pounding of your own heart resounds in your skull, and the scuttling and chittering starts, whether you believe in God, Allah, Vishnu, or a giant chicken in the sky, you WILL pray! I think little lights and indicators should be fine, everything sounds like it'll be dim and foggy anyway, as long as they make sense..kinda wonder about some of the clashing or bright colors though..have to see the whole scheme when it's done, and how lighting brings it out or down.

cool idea Nicodemia...lookin forward to see more of your work....just one point your overall look in terms of darkness sticks to the mood but for recognizing your wip it's abit a pain....plz make it generally brighter so we can see your efforts better

Now as far as randomness goes this is up there with the best of them, but how do you change the little sentence under the name but above the avatar on posts? hope that makes sense. Just wonderin cos mine says veteran and that i certainly am not!

I thought that the very hardcore time i had last nite (too much ouzo! ;) ) would have ruined my chances of getting anything done today but i managed to do quite a bit. Heres some updates for ya all. A rather extensive change of colour scheme and some minor modelling changes to the head. Comment and Crit Please:wavey:

I'll prob replace it with another armour plate or something. It could have been his kill count. Or his age. Or how much money he had in the bank. Or .....I won't go on. :D :applause:

Hey, you can still keep that counter. But you know a display on his head is not supposed to be seen by himself, but by the people in front of him, eventually his foes. You can place the counter on his forehead... I imagine the scene: your robot is before his target.. the counter displays the number 999.. "you're my last foe.. I will not miss you... then I will be free for ever.."
that's frightening for the guy in front of him, no? (or even a bigger number if you want him to look even more dangerous)

Wow! Looking great, I love the head and the legs, and the new color scheme is much better (you went from the Fallout look to the Splinter Cell look).

As for the counter, it looks great... But it does need a purpose, how about changing it to some weird symbolic numbers (like in The Predator's self destruction glove)... That way you can tell us it has a purpose that our puny human intelects simply can not grasp.

Hi there thats a modeling a lot of details i like it a lot. The one thing thats bothers me is lightning of the scene. Perhaps you could mke it a bit brighter so we could see more.

So far so good ..........I like the direction very much.It seems the foundation you have set up is very solid.Great start on the modeling,nice design and clean modeling.It appears he will be sitting in a post Great War type Road Warrior vehichle.

I like the concept/sketch very much,very promising.I think if you follow up with the rest of the modeling as you have with the head thus far you will have something to be proud of for sure.

This is one of the ones to watch,very nice start to a very nice concept/idea.:thumbsup: :beer:

BTW these last couple of renders are the armour viewed from the rear. A detail of the rear web spinner thingy. It'll operate much like the funny scorpion dudes 'get over here' rope from mortal kombat.

Hey this is coming along really nice. I know the parts aren't connected yet but maybe when you do you should pull the body downwards and thus hunch the legs more? I think that might be creepier..

It's spot on clean,very well detailed,always a major plus in my book. It's also a new original twist to a older theme,it works, you have somehow maintained originality with an old idea.

Thanks for the support Virtuoso. I'm currently in the 'pain barrier' where i'm starting to lose the initial enthusiasm i had for this project. Hopefully i can get past it and continue the project.:shrug: Its a bloody nuisance.:thumbsdow

It looks like you have finished up a segment or portion of your plan,it's now on to the next part,it's fresh & new. Yes sometimes things get old after a while,but it's on to new parts from there. After a while deep deep down in my lab under the sand I just go up to the surface kick some waves around and before you know it I want back into my dark dark lab under the beach for some CG fun.;)

Keep it up,it's well worth it,you have an excellent start.See you soon.:thumbsup: :beer:

HI there @Nicodemia, i would lowe to c&c on your new creation but i cant see the texture work, forgive me but im blind and need to see bigger images:). Btw the model is great i was watching your progress from the start and the only thing that bothered me was the dark images:) and smal size. Please @Nicodemia give us a chance, or just me since im so blind,to see your fancy textures on a great model.
