:bounce: Ok ...here is my thought about the theme.
The hero is the trusty soldier of Drakeltar Senator...:surprised ...
who requested from our guy to enter the Phenubian Colony on the Dark Side of the third moon and take the plans of a new Phenubian BattleShip ...:surprised .
The frame i will end up will be like this ...The hero on his TurboPodBike is chased from Phenubians in the Phenubian BusPOD metro .....:surprised
Here is my crapy sketch!!! ( sorry i am not a painter).

I've been seeing your posts in the last challange, with the hair styler ;) It was one of the best ones I believe. especially the vehicle. So I think you'll have a great challange this time as well.

some of the holes on in the front still look a little unclean (shading errors around the edges), but i guess i'm telling you stuff you already know... keep up the good work :D
DimitrisLiatsos
06-06-2003, 04:31 PM
Hey thanks Guys :bounce:
fist ..the wierd ..unclean shading around the edges is because i test render a mel script where i first call Mental Ray's Final Gather and then i ask Maya to rerender the rendered frame with Simple Maya vector Renderer in 40 % opacity...it's just a test so don't worry i will take care of all the wired stuff on the model and on rendering.
Here is some thoughts about Guns on PodBike....:wip:

06-06-2003, 05:42 PM
That bike is coming along very nicely. I am not too good when it comes to machinery. I don't know. It seems that I cannot get the detailing to look like machinery to me. I will add something and then say forget it because it doesn't look right. I don't know, I guess I need more practice.
Are you doing anything else besides this bike? maybe a rider, or something?
It looks awesome, I cannot wait to see it textured.

06-06-2003, 09:12 PM
I think it's done very nicely, but, yes there is a but. I wish I could see something more original as well. It's all the same for the most part. Maybe something not so futuristic "all" the time. Something more off beat.I wish I had the time to enter,I would try it myself.
Still what you do have all be it not very original is still a professional piece of work already.
Aearon
06-06-2003, 10:00 PM
mh, so are you saying the fact that it's futuristic like most entries means it's not a very original design? i don't think so :D
for me it's all about what i see in the pictures, and i think what i see is absolutely unique in this challenge:wip:

Very sexy, this is coming out great..can't wait to see the rest of it
One quesiton, which way do they ride on it? i.e. stretched on top, more sitting up? Not immediately apparent..will wait and see with the rider I guess :)
P.S. I love the way you sign your pics with your cartoon self peeking out the bottom, that cracks me up every time :D

06-08-2003, 02:24 AM
Hey Dimitris....Good job man....use a hiden sphere (Light blue sky) for final gather and make a spot for GI.... (sun light) play a little and render the same picture..the result will be fantastic....
Nice job man...:bounce:

06-08-2003, 03:04 AM
Hi dimitris.. At last, a great update!
The details on the front add a lot to the vehicle. By the way, the lighting and so on at the background is cool....
Cheers!
Aearon
06-08-2003, 07:30 AM
hm i'd really prefer a 3-point(or more) lighting setup, the gi just destroys a lot of detail, much harder to see things this way
at least give the light some direction
Virtuoso
06-08-2003, 08:28 AM
I agree with you Fist.............. (Off-topic)
I think that even when objects are lit brightly many vital aspects of it's form can remain unseen due to in-effective shading from different angles, extreme uniform lighting can flatten objects, hiding the vital curvature. I like the idea of a brighter light from one side, with dimmer lights coming from other angles. This adds the shading needed to model with light.I always think of my work in different "Planes.......Just sections of a surface with there own angles.
Back on topic.................
OK enough school time, not that you need it Dimi............. ............I am waiting for an up-date Dimitris............So far very good, but more updates are needed, but you know that. :)
spirogyro
06-08-2003, 10:30 AM

06-08-2003, 11:41 AM
Spirogyro, i didn't actually get what your aim is .. Are you trying to make a very very competetive mood?
I mean the idea in this forum should be to support people. I'm not saying that everyone should always say good things but even if you want to criticise, it should be in a proper way...

@ antnik ..thanks for the tip ..i will try this steup For GI and FG...
@AJ_23 ...i really can't tell u if it's faster in Max than Maya (MentaRay)....all i know is that i am tending if without Gi and Cuastics and all that..to render with Mental RAy raytraced scenes ...they render 4-5 times faster and they look better...except some occasions!!!:bounce:
coCoKNIght ....lol ...:wavey:

Broooooorrrrrr... I can hear the noise from here, great vespa youīve got. I dig all those little details (cables, rivets, miniguns) how can you model all those objects and leave the textures till the end? I couldnīt find the right piece between those wires (since I donīt change primitiveīs names my object list often has cylinder0345asdfg and so on).
Mmmh I canīt see any blinker, so Iīll have to indent your vehicle sir.

I think it looks very nice, but the colors seem cold,to machine steel cold. They do look good, and well done, but just not very appealing.I know not everything has to be warm and fuzzy, but I think this needs some more warmth, originality.
Don't get me wrong,it's done great, but just missing the warmth.:)

visualboo
06-11-2003, 10:19 PM
Why does everything have to be warm? I think it looks bad ass so far.
That last image is a bit confusing tho. I thought it was a 'side pod' at first. I think it's just the angle.
Aearon
06-11-2003, 10:45 PM
roooaaarrr.. i want to drive this baby :bounce:
i agree to boo though.. i also think the only downside right now is that it's a little confusing.
besides the angle i think the reason is the lighting, which makes it hard to immedietly "get" the shape. it doesn't look uniform because of the many different colors and because some parts are very shiny and reflective. I'd only give some small chrome parts such high reflectivity.
Maybe also try giving the lighting some more direction (-> turn down the brightness of the fill lights / skylight) so you get some darker areas.
Just some tips, not sure if this will help, or if it is what you want...EVERYTHING is up to you :D

hi
the head is realy nice, I have some comments though.
the upperlip is kind of funny, like it is injected whit silicon or something?
and that hole under the cheekbone is a little too deep I think, oh and he has bumb on the back of his head.
well that's all I guess It is realy great but these are some things I notised
It's gonna be wonderful I'm sure of that
take care

Hi there dimitris..
I haven't been around here for a while and I see that you've finished the vehicle and moved on to the character...
Vehicle: perfect...
But I think that you should work on the head a little more.. I agree colin de bink about the upper lip and the hole under the cheekbone. they need to be adjusted. also I don't know why but the char. looks a bit cold to me. could have more facials...
Thats it so far...
Cheers.

your bike is amazing work!
the top lip has a problem. The cleft in the top goes down and out not in. It forms kind of a point. The top lip is usually the same size or smaller than the lower lip so it seems a bit wonky.
Otherwise it looks good.
Jay
BladeFX

The bike is pure quality, nothing to crit there
With the head I'd make some suggestions.
As mentioned by others, the upperlip is kinda funny.
The lower lip has also a problem, but it's less visible.
Normally, pulling out the lip, and giving an extra loop a the tip of the lips, usually does the trick.
The hole in his jaws is a bit to deep I think. Perhaps making it less deep, and making his jaws less wider, will give the same effect, but more human. plus, the head won't look so square.
Also, I thing the jawline, bach at the neck, ends to low.
It looks like you have some skin from the neck overlapping the jaw. Instead it should go a bit more up, untill it's just below the ears.
But... The head is already looking great, and I'm sure he will be a great podbike racer
Awaiting your updates ;)

i think the lips still need some work, and the lower lid looks a bit loose, both look a little thick. and the area around the nose could be cleaner.. make sure you have an edgeloop running around the nostrils

The head has realy imporved with your tweaks.
Besides the nose and lips, I thing the top of your helmet needs to be a bit wider.
I'ts like it's a bit too small for his head. (Could be the render viewpoint also)
Besides this, it's comming along nicely
hey Dimitris very nice head so far - the lips need some work -
the helmet details are great - show us some other views
u used maya for this iam right? is this subd ->poly or cps (proxy)

Fist might have a point.
However, I think it's the hemlet itself that look too confusing.
I think removing the upper part completely, but keeping the wires, will creat a much nicer effect.
That way, you'd be able to tatoo his head :bounce:
Nice job on the lips

nice details. just a point to take note though, that u dont always need details all over the body. I guess u should know this. Hey Dimitri. Nice work so far. It really does look like a futuristic suit of bike leather, with a twist of fantasy.
Theres something I'm not quite sure about around the lower leg area. I think the feet may be too small, or the knee joint too low. I can't figure out which.
Great work though. A huge leap from your previous characters I think.
That's coming along very nice Dimitris, i can understand better what you mean about the folds ;)
Virtuoso
06-26-2003, 07:39 AM
Hi Dimi.... Well it's coming along well.Overall a very nice addition. I can start to see a certain style that is your own with this character.Which is a good thing.
The rider looks to fit the bike quite well.Together they will make a very nice looking shot.
The outfit looks well designed. At first I was thinking you probably could have cut some of the extra designs. But in this state in black it comes together well.
Perhaps you could tone down on the reflection pieces a little, but that's just a minor crit and really more of a taste thing.
My only real suggestion from this point would be to create a little havoc, get it a little off-balanced.A dent,or scratch here and there.A slight bend,A little wear and tear. Perhaps create a symbol with a more earthly color, you know a scroll or rune type pattern.I think a little more warmth with something such as this could really add vibrancy to the overall look.
Well just some added ideas, minor thoughts. But what you do have in overall aspects is really one of the best entries. It's quite impressive. It will be very interesting to see it come together in the end.
Keep up the very nice work.

I Like the bike alot, the details on the back end are really nice! The rider is looking nice too...Wonderful little details on his suit. As for some crits...I think the riders arms are a little too cylindrical, maybe some wrinkles or some slight muscle detail would help change this...I also think the torso could use some more shaping and possibly a few wrinkles. If you wanna go into more detail on the bike you could model the seat to have a rippled cusion look and add some more nutz and bolts to some of the seams....A close up of the handle bars would be really neat too. You've got a fantastic peice here dimitris...Keep at it! I'm excited to see your final images...

Ok ..now i can answer to your thoughts, by the way thank u again for finding the time to write some comments,...let's see..
Jelwa, Dirk_P_Ho, Martypt, Vladvrz,Fetus23, Virtuoso ...guys thanks ..first of all the colors on last pic are wrong ..i was fulling around with photoshop...it is a post only for the related size between Bike and Biker. Hands are scaled for a guy of 71/2 heads tall..classic adult height..but maybe i must check it again..sorry first time that i am really trying for realistic proportions...as for the wrinkles on Jacket and some muscle definition...i will if only i will finish this monster...if i don't make it for the challenge i will surely will do it when i will post it again in the Finished Work section of CGtalk!...also and some scratches on bike color ......i really want to make it all..i just hope i will have the time...i have to make the arm guns ..face texure and the Enviroment..lol :wip:
Erik. Antnik, KWAK, swag and everybody that i am forgetting ..thanks...i hope u will also like it when it's finished!!!
...got to go and make arm guns and face texturing and also some small changes on trousers..lol and enviroment:surprised

Hey what did you use for texturing, do you think maybe you can send me the bitmap you used to texture or tell me what you did use to simulate it. Amazing detail you have there, is most of that bump mapped or did you actually model all the wrinkles? Just amazing i must say again. I would love to see a wire.

Hi Lordrych ..all wrinkles modeled..the small dots on leather is a procedural leather texture in Maya. The complete shader has only leather procedural texture on bump and specular...the rest is plain color and adjustments on highlight and specular falloff of a PhongE Shader.
same on black leather only here the small dots are produced again with a procedural texture
called rock. .. in bottom of this post is a screen grab..hope it helps!

Very nice model indeed!
I really like the helmet, great details there!
The leather texture is also well done.
There is one little thing that annoys me a bit though when I look at your character: his legs. They seem to be a bit too short compared to the body. It was kinda the same with your previous challenge.
Well, it is no big deal, you have another great entry again!
Congrats!

Hi Dimi.........It's all come along very nicely. You have poured a lot of time into these creations and given a great deal of effort. And it has paid off very nicely. I look for details and I can see them everywhere.Plus it's done with quality, not there just for the sake of it.
It will be great to see your creations together posed and really ripping away on that Bike.
My only suggestion at this point would be to play around a little more with the shaders.Perhaps go into some deeper layers of textures. It's done nice, don't get me wrong.I still think you can get more out of it however.
Well anyways this is certanly one of the best entries,I really enjoy your passion and your talent is there to back it up.Keep it going,it's something to be proud of already.

Virtuoso, Antnik ..thanks guys .. i know that i should work more on face shaders and clothes and bike shaders aswell ..and i promise i will ..and if i won't make it for the Challenge..i will for the finished work section...thanks again!!! ...and don't worry Virtuoso my friend i will never misunterstand your good will!!!
....and ..between rigging the character and thinking shaders..here is a start on the enviroment of the Phenubian Metro...MIxed pic wire-render!!

Hey there @Dimitris,
nice update, it has an atmosphere of a dark and modern scifi. Keep growing your vision of that world underground. I would like to see some disorder, cans, dirt, signs, on the wall maybe a graffiti and so on, something that will put more life to your scene more of our human underground behaviour - but thats only me :)
Me like it thumb up
Take care

Nice work Dimitris!
I hope you are still planning on using the subway tunnel you posted earlier. The background in the latest image detracts from the model.
Also, I feel the layout, of the most recent image, doesn't contain the 'action' that it could if the character was facing the same direction as the cycle. I think that the bike will have the best subliminal impact 3/4 from the front, with the character alongside facing the same direction (preferable toward the right side).
If the Agent is going to be standing, with his hand on the bike in the final image, having the hand on, or near, the handlebars would add a very strong sense of impending action.
Anyhow, I think what I'm trying to say is, I think you've got a winner here. Compose your showcase shot to give that "Wow, He's about to pop someone!" feel, then rely on detail images to show off the full extent of your handywork.
Just my thoughts. Keep up the fine work.

swag ..:wavey: thanks for your words for the underground...and ...lol ...don't worry this is not by background..i just was very happy when i finished with the rigging of the character ...and i must say that i just made a back plate ..loaded the bike ...and rendered with what soever lights i had on the scene for just the character..in his final two images he will be in the underground scene..thx!
Electrofirma :wavey: ...sounds good idea to pay much attention to final pose so that it gives this strength u are saying..thanks man!
Antnik ...lol thanks man.. i would also love a copy of Choco's adventures when they are out !!!!!

hey the guy looks great on the bike! awesome dimitris :D
now give us an idea of your final scene!! one thing i noticed in your last two renders: you have very bright highlights that distract from the subject (the guy and his bike)... don't do that in the final!! find a way to make them stand out
yehhh - he looks great on the bike
fist the highlights are maya glow and too much :)

fist, swag, Scottosh ..thx guys for your comments...and don't worry these last pics were just tests.....i will refine everything.. :wavey:

Hey Dimitri, cool work from you again. That statue looks very cute... but menacing at the same time ofcourse!
Check this out. I really liked this shot from akira... it has it all.. speed and tension while still showing off the main features of both rider and bike. Just thought you might be able to draw inspiration from it.

Great Work Dimitris!
I like your foresight! Since 'the Agent' could easily become the next cinematic game icon, the statuette's will make a fine entry into the merchandising arena.
I retract my previous comments about the need to show action in the final pose. It looks like you've got everything under control :)

Bike and biker, terrific modelling! I love the last image, the miniature on the paean, cuz i can see all the details.
About a textured image with an environment you should go for a very forced perspective, background blurred, lights with ghost trail, you know, show the speed, the action, the movement, the overvelocity in residential area fine...
Have you tried with different colors for the machine? Red would be cool, as the akira image posted by Ionized, and stickers perhaps, although it wouldnīt look as a secret agent bike, more as a competition motorbike.
DimitrisLiatsos

Thanks guys...Ionized ..thanks..that's one cool idea from AKIRA...but i wouldn't even try to imitate AKIRA:drool: ...but it is a good idea...i will see what i can do
Electrofirma, Pancreas ..thanks guys..and i will try to give this emotion of speed and stress in the final scene...
...which will take place in here

Hi Dimi.... I think the pose is excellent. The final set piece looks to be a very good one for your praticular creations as well.
My only suggestions would be to give the bike more vibrant colors deep reds,or yellows, somthing with real pop to them. Not that yours are bad because they do look good but just seem a little too much purple/black.They seem to take away from the excellent detailed modeling. This of course is just one guys thoughts, nothing more than that.
I would tone down the glow and give more brilliance to the overall bike and gear/clothes,just some added depth and rich colors, nothing overdone, but just some added pop.
Anyways just some minor thoughts, nothing earth-shattering,just another guys opinion on some minor nit-picks really.
Anyways this is one of the best entries without doubt, well done clean modeling, textures are nice, scene is looking good, detailed in many ways, fun to look at.I think a very nice addition to you ever-growing portfolio.Well done, lot's of work, but you did it,and did it very well.
