Eep! Didn't notice the "20 second max" rule til after I last posted.. changed things around (no more sword) but basically the same.

Sci-Fi, going for "cinematic".

Backstory: The world is under constant attack by a Mad Scientist named Kaspar. Superheroine Nyte is sent to take down this madman once and for all.

Nyte tracks down Kaspar to his secret island laboratory but before she can confront him he pops inside his giant robot and starts to mop up the floor with her.

Nyte is bruised and beaten but thinks she has discovered a way to win.

Animatic time!

Nyte is a character I already have modeled and rigged. I only have Kaspar's head so far.

Very good looking breakdown!
Did she cut the glass or something?, I couldnīt understand that part. :)

Thanks! Yea I didnt make the end too clear in the animatic.. she jumps off of the robots arms and onto the chest where there's a wheel hatch. She rips it open and punches Kaspar.. lights out.

Here's another pic of Nyte where you can see her arms better, the wings are attached to her shoulderblades.

Here's the BBR (Big Bad Robot). Just need to bring him into Messiah and rig him. After that's done I'll build the set and start animating!

I'm gonna save modeling/animating the mad scientist for last.. mainly cuz he's only in 2 scenes, doesnt interact with anyone and if push comes to shove time-wise I have a character in Animation Master I can quickly modify and use.

Wicked robot! How does it open up for the "evil scientist" to jump in? I'm assuming on top?

This hatch is on the left side of its chest =)

Robot rigged, here's a quick test pose.

This is also the resolution I'll be rendering at, goin for that cinematic 16x9 look.

Yay! Background is done! Yes, Kaspar's secret laboratory is inside a Volcano.. what self respecting Mad Scientist doesnt work in one?

Next: 3D Animatic to get all my camera work down and block out the characters movement. Then it's a animatin' I will go.

Aww screw the 3d animatic... have it pretty much mapped out in my head anyways. Anyh00 here's a first pass of Scene A.. she's looking up at the robot and wiping some blood (which isnt there right now) off the side of her mouth.

Crit's welcomed!

Looking great, looking great - can you atleast tell us how the robot bites it. Is it knocked into the lava, or simply cleaved in twain?

Updated
http://demented3d.com/challenge/scenea-pass2.mov 680k

Added a couple henchmen (in yellow o' course) and spiffified the render.

littlebrother: The main character jumps inside the robot and knocks out the pilot (Mad Scientist) so there's no reason to see the bot get destroyed.

WIP Update
Cue the giant robot!
http://demented3d.com/challenge/sceneb-pass1.mov (1.1 megs)

Im pretty happy with how the robot's moving, now I need to play with particles and get some dust going on... then make those henchmen flap around like ragdolls

The chick is screwed up, I know.. :banghead: Her flip is a bit too fast and she should probably stay crouched a little longer before standing up. Gotta do some major tweaking with her.

Crits welcomed!

I agree with you about the females timing but Im sure you can tweak that to perfection.

Although one thing that would really set this off is if you added some type of ambient noise in the background. Nothing distracting just some kinda of noise that a place like that would make. With that addition it would add to the whole scene imho.

Good luck my friend.

The flip looks cool but you need to slow it down long enough for it to read.

Robot needs to be slowed down or have more lag between movements to really give him that sense of mass. the movements are great just to fast for something that big.

Kid Mesh: I added some ambient bubbling/lava noise in the background, it does add a lot. Thanks!

Sketchyjay: Thanks, I've slowed her down a lot. The robot I left as is.. I tried slowing it up a bit but decided I liked it as is.

Saslite has been a major pain in the arse during this project! :banghead: Forced me to re-light the entire scene several times (the hair would glow like a nuclear reactor in some frames), wont lemme render across a network and now I've discovered it doesnt play well with HyperVoxels! So when anyone watches this.. I know she's bald during the last few frames, outta my hands.. mebbe I'll composite some in later.

The backflip stays in the air much longer and she doesnt land, that'll be in the next shot. This was my first time playing with HyperVoxels.. made the dust explosion a teensy bit too big.. that'll be fixed.

Anyh00, here's the current WIP.. crits welcomed!

wow pretty good.

The girls foot has to be fixed just after she jumps. as she goes up it is in an awkward position that does not work.

The pose on landing is wrong

her left leg was back in previous frame. coming down and braking on that leg as she slides back works better than the current one.

I think if you gave her a stronger pose in the slide would be better. have her hips above the level of her knee...more of a crouch than sliding on her butt. right now she snapped her ankle and should be tumbling over her head.

the impact with the right sound effects will rock. The guys popping off the ground is a great touch, really funny.

If you have time at the end make up some chunks for a particle emither to toss with the smoke... that's a unneccessary extra but would be fun to add.

Thanks  Never noticed her foot got jacked after she jumped, have fixed that and am re-working the slide scene (she's also gonna slide a bit farther/faster, seemed a bit slow)

Just seen your movie, its coming along well. I think when the baddie plomps his foot down the camera needs to have the hero more central in the screen as the camera shake seems to distract me from her reaction and then she is suddenly skidding backwards. Maybe its just me? NIce work though.

well this is coming along nicely.

The landing looks good and the flip is exellent.

If anything maybe a little more build up to the flap or a take just before she flaps.

lookin good.

Finally an update.. damned summer heat has made me laaaaazy. Only a small update to the animation, but here's a pic of the mad scientist. He still needs eyeballs, teeth and rigging.

Here's a link to the current animation WIP.

Sketchy, MVP - Thanks for the crits, when I complete the scene and have enough time I'll go back and see what I can do.

Time's running out! Aiieee!

This'll learn me not to slack off on these challenges.. ran out of time so I changed the ending a lil.

Right now the mad scientist cringes before getting beat up.. I originally wanted him to pick up a ray gun and start firing, the heroine would dodge blaster fire while advancing and punch him out.

Anyh00, enjoy!
