Hi cgije,

I like your beast very much, and texturing is also very good. :applause:

I would give you a couple of tips althoug, if you dont mind. Some parts of the texture are not as detailed as the rest. For example on the back. If you compare it with the leggs, those are much more detailed. You should try a displacement map also. btw: What software did you use?

but as I see, you have not finished the texturing yet, so its a good start, just go on.

and keep me posted.

bye

Hi ward: thank you!
Your comments are very nice!
"Some parts of the texture are not as detailed as the rest",yes, may be becausemy poor uv set work.I will post a pictur about this.
The back is lack of detailed.and the textures on there are out of shape(might because the wrong uvset). But I thank it can be coverd by its equipment.Of course it is not a seriously manner.
:scream:
I use max5.1 ,deeppaint3d and photoshop.
I have not finished the beast texturing yet, just began the bump texture.(bump texture is not finished) and the color, the specularity, the diffusion maps are some copes directly coming from bump. Not have been modify. This is a render test.
I would like to try displacement map also,But if use it,max's render time is too long to endure.
Can you tell me how can I improve render time about displacement map?
Your elephant looks great.I see that you use many render layers and final composite these.I thank it is a good way to realize realistically effect!May be different layer can be adjusted alonely.could you tell me something about compositing, thank you.
very sorry,my poor English.

a good job.;) but i think if your beast 's prop have more detail, just let's smooth them.then can't be seen transition.
and here have a suggest, change the camera angle that let the beast look like huge.:p may be better.
my english also poor :p so only can type these words.:annoyed:

looking god :)
think you maybe need to tone the bump map down just by a little bit, also I see the seams where the right front leg reaches the back

and for me:) what methood do you use for uv mapping?

cgjie
06-04-2003, 05:31 PM
Hello Hexodam: I agree with you.thanks. :wavey:
About uv :First I use uvwmap fot each part.(before this,I have
given each part of body different ID yet ) for example:use mesh
select to select with ID which you have set before, then put uvwmap on it ,use mesh select again ,to give a another suitable
uvwmap on it.when each part of the body have a uvwmap,I convert the beast to a editable polygon.final I add a unwrap uvw
map modify to set uv,that's ok!Thanks max 5's improvement on
unwrap uvwmap!
exause me :p my poor English, hope you can understand my
meaning:rolleyes:

wow! Awesome map!

Can u help me out ? Im trying curves for bump, dif and spec
so look at this :

http://sycraf.myftp.org/wip/bump_q.jpg

Is there a basic curve for each map ?

BTW, the render shows a normal size creature, wich i think
its not ur case.. make lots of little shadows everywhere to
address this factor.

;)

cgjie
06-06-2003, 06:08 PM
Maximus Groff:Oh thinks.
I would like to help you but I can't open your picture.:surprised

This is a just texture render test, when all texture is ok,I will

Looking Great CGjie,

I love teh skin, the scales are exellent - I know how hard they are.

I would say you have the hard parts of the skin textures done and done well - awesome bump map especially - However the color map you could still make another couple of passess I would say.
It would be nice to see some shading/highlighting that defines his muscle structure and even his wrinkles.

Adding some dirt and wear and tear to his skin would be nice too. Some gradual color variation throughout the whole body would also probably help.

As mentioned before, it does look a little plastic-ish. Spec is hard on a creature like this, but i'm sure you'll get it.

Great job though, Its looking fantastic! :bounce: :buttrock:

great work! :D

cgjie

danb_vfs:Thanks for your great comment!

I have generally modified on color map with your suggestion.Add some shading/highlighting to defines his structure...
Then I will make some color change today.

How I can get a better spec effect?
I think a creature should have a broad and soft spec.
Now,a spec level map was come from bump map with a little modified. Then Add some noise in gloss- map would make him looks wet...
But it still worries me...:scream:

Teyon, mage111 ,thanks .

No pain!! Though I have not enough spare times and more knowledge about 3D.

BTW:This is a latest render. Background will be modeled latter.
See you next time,bye.

cgjie

HI:LIMBAUL_ABIGGOR:
About the scale:A picture was used as a bump texture foundation(this picture is given by my friend).then I add some new layers(noise or cloud)to create chaos.set the layer blend to darken or overlay or some others.

BTW:Now I thought this scale on the beast may be too large:-< but it's difficult to modified, beacuse I had flattened some layers:-<
To distinguish between creature's foundation bump and wrinkle, structure bump should be important.(may be put them in different layers is a good idea,so it is easy to adjust)

LIMBAUL_ABIGGOR,if you would like to view the picture of bump texture foundation ,give me your email,I am going to send it to you.good luck!
