View Full Version : Cinematic Game Icons - character - Erilaz
erilaz 06-03-2003, 09:44 AM Okay... here's the first idea I've come up with. For now I'm just going to give you background:
_____________________________________________
SHADOWHAND
A master warrior from ancient China is severely injured protecting his city against a demon lord, the fight resulting in him losing his sword arm from the shoulder down.
After barely escaping with his life, the warrior takes on a grueling pilgrimage to the far northeast, gaining runic powers from a nordic shaman. His intense training and enormous energy causes the warrior's lost arm to return to him as a phantom limb, allowing him to wield his sword as though there were nothing holding it up.
The immense strength of the shadowhand, combined with the runic magic he now holds, allows the warior to return home to challenge the demon lord once more.
And so the adventure begins....
_____________________________________________
This may not describe the image in my head very well, but the idea is for the warrior to be standing in the rain, holding his sword with the shadowhand. The rain will fall over the phantom arm, allowing you to see it, but for the most part it will be invisible. He will also be wielding some funky runic magic stuff.
Hmmm.... I'll try and draw it.:D

I apologise for the poor quality of the sketch. I'm currently undergoing a relearning process with my drawing skills.
NOTE TO SELF: STOP USING A DIGITAL CAMERA TO SCAN YOUR CONCEPTS WITH!!!:surprised
Let me know what you think of the concept. I may do a few ideas.

Hey! Thanks for the comments guys!:D
Virtuoso: Thanks very much! You really know how to boost up one's spirit. I hope to get somewhere with this one. Maybe even finish it this time!:D
hypercube: I'm glad you find the concept is interesting. I've had this guy in the back of my mind for a while now. I hope I can achieve that look that is stuck in my head!
coCoKNIght: Ta coCoKNIght. You too! Have fun!
Work is really hectic at the moment, but hopefully I can make a start at lunchtime today. This will be my first attempt at an Asian face, so that will make things even more interesting.
Good luck to all.

Thanks KayosIII!
Well, here we go! This is the start. The very tiny and not much done start, but the start (Those that have seen my work before know i like to show as much progression as possible).
Three guesses as to where this ninja-style of head modelling comes from!:D

I realised today that I've never modelled an asian face before, so this will be an interesting challenge.:wip:

cool concept......are we going to be able to see the phantom limb, ie: a shadowy/ ghost-like limb, or will it be completely invisible?.......

satanatron, I'm looking at making it almost completely invisible, but having rain flow off it.
Sadly, I'm not going to have a lot of time to do this challenge as I'm flat out on other projects!:annoyed:
Oh well, let's just see what happens!:D

erilaz, I really like your idea!!
I have a really hard time coming up with good concepts or ideas for stories. I'm not as creative as most artists I know, but very technical when it comes to computers.
Note to self: Don't steal other people's ideas.. heheh

Thanks for the kind words Vandal.
As I suspected, I have little to no time for work on this project. I think if I don't get a chance to do anything for the challenge, I will at least keep this character for future work. I think I can develop him into something worthwhile.
So stay tuned, but don't hold your breath. MAJOR workload at the moment.:thumbsdow
Great concept, I always love character that combine diferent cultural concepts (the graceful movement and fighting style of a chinese warrior and the "crudeness" and simple lines of nordic runes).
By the way, if you need some reference material concerning nordic runes, I have some images that may help.
Again, great concept, I'm looking forward to seeing how it'll turn out:thumbsup: :)

I would like to apologise to those who would have liked me to get this character going. There was too much on this month. I will endeavour once again to succeed in the next challenge!:wavey:
