Hey guys, one thing that I'm certain I dont know enough about it,
how important is the video card one is using to EI?

I just upgraded my card and am still testing stuff out on the system
over-all....

I notice a great perfomance boost in the video games I have (only 2)
and Silo seems to be very much improved as well....

any info would be educational for me!

thanks

I have for comparison a 2008 Mac Pro with the stock ATI 2600 card and a 2008 Mac Pro with the nVidia 8800. The 8800 is noticeably faster in EIAS. Especially when you have hundreds of copies of textured objects (maybe a million or so total polys), and all textures visible in the camera window.

Worth a few hundred bucks for sure.

Hmmm, okay, well, the nvidia... does it have more memory?

I picked up a SAPPHIRE 100228L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card primarily for the machine I play a few games on...
but I'm trying it out with my 3d software.
Have not had a chance to run EI on it yet, but Silo's topology paint tools work
noticebly faster....

I will give EI a run tonight with it.

thanks for the comparison...

There is a comparison of the two cards here.
From what I can tell the 3850 is some where in between the two cards I mentioned.

Hey a good review page, thanks for posting!

the only difference I can see is that the card I have comes with 512mb memory opposed
to 256mb in the article...

as far as the gaming aspect.... It blows away my old nvidia quadro fx1100 that it replaced....
