View Full Version : Cinematic Game Icons - vehicle - BladeFX
BladeFX 06-03-2003, 08:36 AM Just reserving my spot, sketches due this afternoon.
I'll be making a vehicle because I've made too many characters lately :p
The gameplan is an adventure game. Style movie Waterworld, but in a world full of sand, in search for water.
The objective is to locate towns and settlements to find provision, and to speed as fast as you can through the deadly desert.
So my vehicle will be built for a sandy environment, have huge engines and highly protected water tanks + some armor and guns.
Hope I'll be able to finish it.

Here are the sketches.
I'm doubting between caterpillars or huge regular wheels.

Great idea, would like to play this game.
All the sand car racers I've seen have wheels, I think caterpillers have a top speed problem. But then it's a game you can break the rules!

I started on the seats, and blocked out the basic hull.
It'll be a 2 payer game, so 2 seats will be provided.
I decided to strech the hull so it'll be like a boat on sand.

You did all of this in less than 24 hours? :surprised

That's one big buggy! :) Cool and very speedy work..
Since it's all rough the only thing I can comment on at the moment is that the arms of the chair don't seem very long, based on where the seat and headrest (in the sketch) are, looks like it'd be extremely difficult to use.
BladeFX
06-03-2003, 08:19 PM
Leigh, there isn't much to it. all wheels are the same.
all bolts are placed with Fellah's Pearl necklace method, so they just follow splines.
Wheels aren't attached to the main body, they just float. + I had a lot of "spare" time today.
@hypercube: I'll look into that. I'll put a char in it to see how it looks.

Added gas-control to the feet, made the seats, legpieces and screens rotatable.

cool start and very good details :buttrock:
but I have somthng to said :I think that the arms of the chair need to go down for a small distance ,cause it will not be confortable for the rider and it make the chair looks strang?? I might be rong what do u think?

Well hello you..
You have a nice concept and I believe you're almost finished ;)
I mean you're so fast. Oh wish I could be like that ;)
A suggestion, maybe making the seats a bit bigger? They seem soo little in that huge construction. I know there will be many other additions but anyways...
Sincerely
BladeFX
06-05-2003, 12:58 PM
dodo3d: You might be right, but the arms are not meant to lean on. The contain displays, a stand for their helmets, + the seat belts. Seat belts can't begin to low. But as I mentioned before. I'll try to position a character in it, and see how it turns out.
akocan: thanx :p I won't make the seats bigger, because there will be 2 drivers, and i think room for a few gunners also. It's a transporter & combat vehicle at the same time. + There will be huge engines (almost everything behind the seats)
Meanwhile, some updates.
Added ramps and hooks.
Next will be ladders and engines.
(I hope this computer keeps up. stuck with a P3 600 / tnt riva card :( a big disaster)

Trying to catch up right now :D

Thanx
Realy loving your characters over at your collaboration thread.
Now some updates:
Continued with the gun.
Not finished. Just needs some more detail and handles on the rear.
Started modelling the suspensions also. That is comming up next.

Very nice up-date BladeFX.Details are looking plentyful and well done.
One thought I have as of now is that that gun turret looks to be just a touch in the way of the seats in your last shot. The pilots would want complete un-obstructed views I think, don't you.
:p
Perhaps you can place it more towards the edge of the platform?Or maybe another angle will show that it is indeed not in the way,I am just going by what I see in that last shot. Just attempting to help where I might be able to.:)
OK so far so very good.Ambitious, but it looks like you are up to the task.Keep going,it's shaping up very nice.

Virtuoso, I think it's in front of them, but position is far from final, because now they'd shoot the tires each 3 bullets
I've got to take it to higher ground, or in front of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, started the suspension. As I haven't got my model here, so it'll be rendered tomorow.
Got a wire though.

Anyway, good luck BladeFX! More pics!!

The more I look at it, the more I agree about the seats.
I'll make 'm a bit bigger and see how it looks.
Since I haven't got my model here, I started on a pilot.

Those suspensions sure are big,but needed for this transport of such great size.Look's good.
Yes raise the guns, but only later, when you have fleshed out everything.
They look good, but think about position more later. The head is off to a good start. You should tweak the nostrils more, minor crit, but you know what I mean.
Headphones are cool,nice job.
You have a rather ambitious creation here Blade, but looks like you are getting there.Very nice effort.

Two thumbs up for your effort and work, and one for the Box of Belgian chocalate you will send me.;)

Neox: I'm honored with your visit :p
Glad you like it.
Virtuoso: Yep, I wanted to make even bigger suspensions, but moderated myself to these :p.
Started to texture procedural also, due to lack of time.
I'll create homemade textures afterwards :)
Fixed the nostrils (at lease I hope so :D ) If not, please tell me.
Headphones expanded with auto-rotatable, LCD-screen containing glasses.

Yes I like the tweaks to the nostrils,I know they were minor, but it sure did help BladeFX. The headset is looking sweet.Your doing a very good job here, just keep at it,lots of details and ideas, but it's all worth it in the end.
Proficiat!

I didn't plan to continue on my vessel, but since you've encouraged met over at your thread, I took my best shot at it.
I'm loving your work by the way.
Fist : I'm glad my avatar served me purpose :D
Glad you like my creations.
I'll keep adding gadgets / useless boxes and buttons :p
Vladvrz : Thanx... I'll keep hammering at it. (If only my clients would let me have some peace  )
Time for the updates.
You might have noticed I've never posted a rear view of the transporter. THat's because the engines sucked big time.
BUT... This has changed. I've been busy creating new engines and using a reflection overkill to hide the major flaws :p
Textures are all wip. The whole thing will be textured at the end.

Hi BladeFX...
Well your work is beginning to reach your ambition.you seem to strive for the more detailed and ambitious side of things I have noticed in the past and with this Challenge,I think that's a good thing.Plus you sure do show improvemnet to go along with it.
For get about the reflection overkill to hide the major flaws ...Just fix those major flaws, you know you have to. :p And then get rid of the reflection,it is killing me.;)
I really can appreaciate the extra 2 kilometers you are taking with this challenge.Go for it,but always try and finish up those details to the best of your ability.
I really loove your ambition, and it is paying off here.Get this thing to the finish-line.It's a real interesting piece of work.Good effort and well done thus far.

Virtuoso: I actually try to improve or try new things every modelling session. The problem is, this is my hobby. So I have to dedigate almost all my time to my clients. But who knows. Perhaps one day I'll be as good as you are
I did remove the reflection and fixed the flaws. I'll show that later this week.
antnik: Thanx. I'm going as fast as possible
McFly: I'm trying to keep up. The engines look better textured, but I'm still busy with that.
Ionized: Thank you. I like to make things that are way too big or way too small

hey nice going
i love the concept
just one general thought which probably wont help you now but maybe in the next challenge: i think you should put more in your sketch it will help you define the general form. i think that you got too fast into modeling which will take you more time in the end.
keep it going. i am interested to see what will become of it.

First of all, I'd like to thank you all for the encouragements, they realy keep me going
McFly : Thanks, fully textured engines will be later on, perhaps in finished gallery.
The weels are quite easy. Just a cylinder, bevelled a couple of times and shifted some area's.
Virtuoso : When is your steed of steel comming?
RobertoOrtiz : Thanx
akocan : It's a "she", guess the face isn't femenin enough.
Concerning the eyes, I'll try some normal eyes too.
asela : You're probable right about the scetching, but I realy don't like scetching + I never follow it...
I won't be able to submit a fully textured vehicle due to a huge lack of time.
I've got too much work for my clients.
But, since I've still got 14 days, I'll try to come up with a worthy procedural textured vehicle.
This bcause procedurals are a lot quicker then normal textures, and secondly, I've never textured before, except for the T-shirt in my previous challenge.
Here's a first try at the procedurals:

Hope you can get as much as possible done still BladeFX.I think you should go for the textures.Practice makes perfect.Even if you have to finish the weeek after the challenge deadline.Perhaps go procedural now,and then the hard hitting textures afterwards?
Well keep it going,I like the whole idea, the ambition is great to see as well. You don't need sleep do you?:p
