View Full Version : Abstract: Post your abstract work!
beefcake 06-03-2003, 07:49 AM Hi guys! I've seen a lot of nice characters, cars, airplanes etc.. But it's rather seldom that I do see some wired abstract art.
So, what about using this thread to post your abstract 3d work? It would be very interesting to see your creativity in action.. Here's some strange abstract work I've done:
__001: (Lightwave, Photoshop)
http://beefcake.xp.no/3d/curly_world.gif
__002: (Lightwave, Photoshop)
http://beefcake.xp.no/3d/spin_ball2.jpg
__003: (Lightwave, Photoshop)
http://beefcake.xp.no/3d/green_spin_ball.jpg
__004: (Lightwave, Photoshop)
http://beefcake.xp.no/3d/grid_splut.jpg
__005: (3ds Max, Photoshop)
http://beefcake.xp.no/3d/crazy_party.jpg
(PS! It would be fun to have a little description from each artist, how he/she made the picture and what kind of software he/she used.)

Wow, there's a ton of great stuff in this thread. Eugene, I love that toonshaded boxes one.
Here's one I did a while ago
http://xzevlin.astoundingadventures.com/wips/monkeyBars_1.jpg
And this was just a colour variation of it:
http://xzevlin.astoundingadventures.com/wips/monkeyBarsTinyBlue_.jpg
Mostly just simple shapes and a whole lot of vRay rendered reflections
This was labeled by a friend as Garry's Teapot during a demo I was doing on Mental Ray's HDRI capabilities so thats what I'll refer to it as.
This was done in Maya and rendered in Mental Ray. I forget which version of Maya.

this is a great thread. i especially like the images that have unearthly shapes, but realistic rendering -like beakcake's 2+3 & fraxby's images. there all very good. really nice. make more:applause:
here's someting i was calling an abstract animation. the motion is completely done with expressions and dynamics. it was fun to make.

I'm a bit tentative about posting any of my work here, as the stuff here is way out of my leage, but anyhoo, here they are:
*note* the three pics come out of me re-learning Truespace 2 after longish break (college).
(p.s. they are big (1047x840))

http://images.deviantart.com/large/indyart/indymisc/dusty-hacker_Abstract_3.jpg
http://images.deviantart.com/large/indyart/3d/dusty-hacker_Abstract_1.jpg
:hmm:
-H-
*added later* and yes i am aware that they are mostly just primitves, 'Feanoro', but :rant mode: i'm not excatly an expert modeller, certainly not of the standard here, but as my strengths tend to be in lighting (i'm a theatre lighting techie/designer) that is mostly what is on display, with composition too. :/rant mode:
so i'll just go back to lurking :p

I love abstract but it seems that alot of people just render up some primitive objects with some DoF and call it abstract.
Anyway, heres an awsome abstract link.
