Hi guys I have just started learning maya and I am having a strange problem.

Btw I have checked the online help (F1) and havent been able to find a answer in there.
If I create an image plane in a view port, I can zoom in close to and away from the plane with no problem - the plane stays visible. However, if I create another image plane in a second viewport, and than zoom away from it, it will disappear - the second plane I mean, the first is not affected. the second plane will not reappear until I zoom close enough so that the plane is slightly larger than the viewport.
It doesnt matter which viewport I set up the first image plane up in. The problem is always in the second viewport with the second plane, the first viewport is never affected.

Thanks guys,
Brett

It may be a clipping plane issue within your camera attributes. If you select the offending camera, then open up its attribute editor (Ctrl a), in there you should find some values for "Far Clipping Planes" and "Near Clipping Planes" (or something like that). Change the value of the near plane to something like 0.001, and change the value of the far clipping plane to something like 10000. If indeed this is the problem, then this simple fix should take care of it real quick.

Hope that helps some.

I tried that and it didnt help.
thanks anyway ! It doesnt matter which viewport is the second to have a viewport to have a image plane created. The problem is always the second viewport no matter which viewport it is.

Thanks

it most certainly sounds like a clipping plane issue. but if you did indeed change the near and far clipping plane values for your camera then perhaps it's a video card issue? the image planes are two seperate ortho camera's looking from two different angles right? i mean you don't have 2 cameras set up for the left and right side do you? or two for the top and bottom or two for the front and back? if so that's an easy fix. if not then i'm stumped

so far the problem only occurs with this file. It's from the
3ds max vtm at www.3dbuzz.com. Issue 4. Dont know what it is about this file, but it's the only one with problems.
