This is only like my 2nd post on this board, so please bare with me if I'm doing anything incorrectly.

Allright, here's my work in progress image:

After finishing the basic frame with engine and painting/chroming the appropriate pieces, I decided it would be a good time to start getting my lighting correct before I throw in another 100,000 polygons of detail in obvious places.

The main thing that I need help with is the reflections in the chrome. They are very pixelated and not in any way antialiased. I tried changing the values for RH Rays, Balance, Curve Balance, Min./Max Density, and HDRI Coverage Range all with no success. Those values seem to only affect the shadows and make strange black blotches appear where I don't want them.

If anyone could help me out with my reflections to smooth them out a little, I feel this piece will have a significant increase in realism, and I'd feel much better about taking the time to throw all the detail in :)

Thanks in advance for your time.

Regards,

Andrew

Put the supersampler on. It's located in the material editor. Max2.5 star is the fastest.

Allright I'll give that a shot and post another rendering of it in a couple hours. Thanks for the help... I just hope it works better than my hours and hours of pulling hair out :)

Is the chrome a Final Render material?
If not, I would use the FRmaterial convert (utililities panel/more), and convert it to one.
Then remove the raytraced reflection map, change the FR material's reflection amount to 100%, enable reflection in the FR globals, and give it another go.
Good luck,

Remi: It is most definitely the El Diablo II... good eye :) I used pictures from Jesse's website to create this bad boy, and I am definitely planning on showing him. I know a buddy in Long Beach that has met him, so that shouldn't be too hard to show him once it's done...

Brittnell: Yup... it's a fR material..

And now...

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU JETROPAG!!!!!

Your suggestion worked like a CHARM :)

Thanks a TON for helping me with that cuz I don't think there's very many more hairs left on my head to be pulled out...

I'm gonna chuck a little more detail in, and then post the final in the other section when it's 100% done :)

Thanks again!

Andrew
