View Full Version : Mental Ray, glossiness problemm.
Trofimm 08-24-2008, 06:38 PM Hello, forgive me for my bad English.
Here's my question. In Mental Ray, in 3d max 2008 and 2009, in the material Arch & Design, scale glossiness, not proportional to reflect the apparent blur. According to the idea, 1 - this mirror, 0 - diffuse reflection, and should gradually change intervals degree blur, as realized in Vray. And it turns out reaches 0.1 (see picture), but blur is far from diffuse. Further reduction of influencing the result does not, except for the appearance artifacts. At zero everything is fine - diffusion. DGS gives a similar result. How change this restriction or increase blur? Thank you.

scene for 3dmax 2009
Well, I can't achieve the vray results. The only way to make something like the vray renders is delete the self illuminated card and create an area light and check the visible in render option and set the area of the light to that of the self illuminated card. Then it renders like the vray in 0.1 and in 0.5 but the ground near to the light is blow up and certainly the vray looks much better.
So there is a problem in the glosiness with self illuminated objects, you are right. :banghead:

With lights yes, but without lights and a card with self illumination like it is in the scene he attached is not possible. The three examples in the render are with lights. He want do it without lights.
Take a look at the scene he posted.

sorry for my english, but i donīt understand you. We have three Lights and only the photometric Light need a Plane with A&D Material for simulate selfillum Area from the photometrics Light or i am blind. :curious:

We have to make large glossiness, without lights, only reflected.

You missed the scene posted in Post #3
In that scene there are no lights and 0.5 in the glossiness of the ground material works well but when you try 0.1 for the glossiness you have not the result that he have in vray. With lights no problem to control the glossiness.

ok
this rendering is without Light.
Now the 0.1 seems be working like vray.
What changes must be done to the scene he posted to achieve this result?
Or is it only working with a different scene with a greater rectangle?
Or perhaps another material for the ground (I didn't tested with different material)?

Not similar. Many objects impede watch. Look at my picture at the beginning of the topic, as it should be at 0,1 (vray).
