The diamonds look perfect, but something is not settling right with those rubies... Not sure exactly what... I think more light needs to be passing through them. The diamonds look like they are refracting light just as they should, but the rubies are not, almost as if their opacity is too high...
I've never made a gem material like you have there, so I'm not exactly sure on how to help you out, but don't touch those diamonds they look great!

thanks for that, the red stones were really just thrown in at the last minute to "fill" the scene.. I'll work on then next.
The diamonds though just dont feel right to me, its hard not having a real bird egg sized diamond to ply with while I'm surfacing,, maybe I should give de beers(?) a call and ask for a free sample to use, strictly for educationbal purposes!

When I went to the Smithsonian I saw the Hope Diamond along with tons of other stuff I should've stolen and sold to the highest bidder...
The hope is kinda a deep bluish color similar to what you have with your red... the opaqueness and whatnot... The only difference is the highlighting around the spots that are not so opaque... If you look at your diamonds they have very shiny highlights that almost sparkle that the rubies are lacking.
And aside from asking de beers like you suggested, I doubt you're gonna get those diamonds much closer to perfect aside from getting lucky on your settings ;)
Best of luck.

Diamonds are great..
Maybe you just keep them and delete the rest... Let them take the central position in the image... and maybe to work a little bit with a background ... to put some black curled fabric.
