I'm doing a tutorial in the Maya Games and Interactive book for building a low poly character. It calls for mapping image planes to both the front and side cameras. That's no problem. The problem is...Maya is about 10 times slower than it should be when these images are up. I don't think regular planes w/mapped textures go as slowly. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It's unbearably slow, and very hard to work with. Thanks.

There is a trick to bypass this slowing down. Activate the front viewport and go to PANELS > ORTHOGRAPHIC > NEW and choose for FRONT. Now create a imageplane with this camera, and when you set it up right go to PANELS > ORTHOGRAPHIC and choose for the already existing front camera. By setting up the imageplane this way it becomes as fast as the viewport normaly is.

Now repeat these steps for your side camera.
