Is 2.5 the release in which they're adding support for custom hotkeys? If it is, when is it likely to be ready?

AFAIK, it is the release that will "unlock" blender to customization. I have no idea as to when it will be released.

The work on 2.5 will start in a week. It's a pretty big work though, so we'll not see it out before 2009. Durian, the next open movie is supposed to start in Feb/Mar 2009, and will be also used as a test for 2.5 and tools that will be developed.

PS: don't forget that Apricot, the open game, is going to be out any time now, and it will have a special edition of Blender 2.47 with all the GLSL goodies :D

I am quite intrigued/impressed by this version of Blender.

Anyone have suggestions for a MAX-user, but a Blender-n00b, should look to get more info/tutorials/etc?

(I am looking through the Blender website right now)

Daniel Lara Martinez from Pepeland School has created a Blender setup with icons designed to emulate the Max or Maya interface.

If you are thinking about trying Blender, maybe you can find useful download this interface. The organization, some icons and functions are similar to Max-Maya style. Just unzip this archive into your blender folder and open the program. Itīs just a little help to start with Blender.

Download the archive here (http://www.daniel3d.com/pepeland/misc/3dstuff/blender/maxmayainterface/MaxMaya_interface_style_for_blender.zip). (right click and save as please.)

Stephen,

Hi, I downloaded he file and unzipped it and the folder was empty. I then unzipped it in the Blender Application folder and opened Blender and still nothing. Any ideas how to install this and does it work with Blender for mac?

Thanks

what you got there is a .B.blend file and a .blender directory. there reason you may not see them is because they're hidden files and directories.

.B.blend is the defaults file for blender, and, usually is located inside blender's directory. you should place .blender in there too.

if this doesn't make the layout work (never used blender on a mac, so I'm not sure), you can always open the file with blender and "save default settings" from the file dropdown menu.

I don't know about that file, but you can make your interface look like that screenshot very easily. Have a look at this:

Blender Windowing System (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Blender_Windowing_System)

Right Click on the areas between window panes and select Split or Join.

In that screenshot you see the three views with a Buttons Window and the Outliner Window on the left and the Timeline on the bottom.

When you get it the way you like it, you can Save Default Settings.

I am happy to announce that my first video tutorial is up and ready to be downloaded from www.kot-in-action.com (http://www.kot-in-action.com/)
This is my first tutorial ever, so I hope it came out good.
The tutorial targets MAX users who would love to migrate to Blender for various reasons, but overwhelmed with it's state-of-art GUI. It will explain how to make Blender look similar to 3DS MAX.
Go ahead and get it while it's hot http://blenderartists.org/forum/images/smilies/sago/smile.gif
Thank you.
