There is no "easy" way to unwrap a model - it's all about choosing the most appropriate projection methods for the model in question, and editing the resulting UV map until all the stretching has been eliminated.
As for the actual methods in Max, I am sure that this is covered in Max's manual (which I have heard is pretty extensive). Doesn't Max also come with a bunch of tutorials? I am sure that they demonstrate this somehow :)

well i just found a good tutorials scrolling through the previous topics so i have a good idea as to how to go about unwraping my models :) so i'll agree there is no "easy" way .
( yes max comes with the tutorials / alot of help files i just was too dumb to understand them :P )

Hehe and don't feel dumb about finding the tuts a little hard to understand - UV mapping can seem really weird at first :)
