View Full Version : Website redesign
philnolan3d 08-22-2008, 08:58 AM I'm working on redesigning my website. I've completely overhauled the code and almost everything has been uploaded, but it's come to my attention that some folks don't care for the color scheme. It's the same scheme I've been using for 5 years or so, since I first set up the site. Although some others seem to like it a lot. One recruiter I was talking to tonight saw it and said "love the website look/feel- really awesome."
Regardless I've come up with a couple of new color schemes and wanted some opinions.
First the current scheme:

Now the first new scheme I came up with. I'm not sure I'm thrilled with it.

And the second one. I'm starting to get rather fond of this one, but I'm not sure which of the "box" colors to use for the page content.

Well, Phil, both of your new ideas are pretty bland and monochromatic. As painful as your original color scheme is (and yes, I expect rabid chibis to pop out and attack me at any moment when I look at it), it had the contrast going for it, even it said contrast was a bit too high for pleasant surfing. That is why the second version is far preferable to the blah gray, but only with the darker content boxes. I'd toss the lightest of the three.
As for which box for content, you need to determine visability priorites. What is most important that the viewer see? Put that in your highest contrast (probably the dark box with bright type).
Hope this helps some!

I just want to get this straight. You say the second one is preferable to "blah gray" but the second one is far closer to gray than any of the others that are both a clear blue. What about a compromise, since I like the third one (blue) and you like the second one (if I'm reading correct) with more contrast. What about just adding more contrast to the third one?

My deepest apologies, insomnia has me up at all hours, and in the wee hours of the morning, my logic does not always come across.
By "second one," I was referring to this as your Original scheme, first and second alternatives.
So, theres your "Anime bright" Blue, the institutional gray fog, and the second choice, of the toned down blue with the 3 shaded boxes, which is the best (to my eye) of the three...
I've just awoken after a luxurious 4 hours sleep, but the coffee machine has not yet graced me with its nectar, so this explanation may not clarifiy much...

Oh OK, so we agree on the best one. Thank you. Don't worry about the confusion. I've been up all night myself. I'm off now to catch 4 or 5 hours of Z's
