Absolutely hilarious, classic slapstick.
It would be great to see this with a bit more developed character, but even with a basic blue cubelittle man it works.
The only small (tinty really) detail I noticed is that the hands float through the doorhandle a bit when he's pulling it with all his force, but hey..... if that's all...

I must say that you have done a great job. I especially found that your animation was fluid, enough snap when you needed it and overall I can tell that you know how the body would move in each situation. Wether it was when the character was softly brushing the butterfly away with his hand or foot or when he had both feet on the door and was pulling the handle. I also liked when he was trying to look over the fence and fell down..like a noodle. I felt at moments that I was watching old warner brother cartoons!
Oh one last thing! Your animation shows that you dont need fancy models and lights to make something that is interesting and well animated. You got to the meat of what you wanted and that was the story and the animation! Amazing work.

Wow, fantastic work...really enjoyable. The hands on the door handle needs a little cleanup, but the rest is terrific. Dsigna, I'm pretty sure he uses Maya.
hehe awesome!! love it, wonderful animation!! :applause: :applause:

terrific.. a very good animation. I liked the interaction of butterfly and character. I really liked the part when the butterfly landed on his nose and he smacked himself in the face... too funny. as someone said earlier ... great slapstick, a classic.

wow thats definately one of the best animations i've seen. your motion is so realistic and perfect! I hope you used motion capture because that would mean I still have a chance at being an animator lol. anyways, that rocked.

PS i like the music that goes along with it as well.

Just watched your Butterfly movie, I loved it. Even with the simple character he emminates a lot of character. THe music went well with it too.

Wow, great animation!!
yeah, I think animating that blue cubeman rather than your complete character was a good choice since the body expressions are great and they really show off that you are able to achieve a perfect story telling even without facial animation.
I love it sooooo much. Keep it up!
oh, I used some of your yellow guy's poses as a reference for my student reel. =P

lovely animaiton.
all the animation principles are in this animation.
i like a lot he timing and how fluid are the movements.
this blue gay is the low res version of the character of your web
are you going to change the character and make the same animation with facial animation????

06-05-2003, 12:39 PM
yeah, very nice. i agree with everyone else. :)
the emotion was great, i especially dig the "warming up" and stretching/patting down body you've got goin
the only thing i really didnt like, or part that honestly doesnt work at all about it is your one shot near the end, where you cut to the front of the character walking. I completely lost track of where he was, where he was going, and wht he was doing. I think you'd be much better off leaving it at the same shot prior, instead of cutting there. it just seemed too abrupt and worthless to be a camera cut, the emotion and drive of the blue guy is shown enough that i really dont think you'd need to cut there.
excellent work though, makes me want to animate again. :)

Hi guyz !
Thank you for your kind words ! I am glad you like it.
Thanks a lot that you liked the story. It's a huge compliment for me. Music was done by Stefan Gustafsson (www.elephantbeachmusic.com).
By the way sorry for delay.
Here are the answers to your questions.
I used Maya 4.0 to create this short. Since I was working fulltime, I spent 6 months doing this short. It was hard time. But I got the motivation since I liked what I was doing :)
Tom N. - I didn't use any mocap :) That's for sure !!! :) :)
Hope I will able to show you soon my new stuff.
Once again THANKS for all compliments !!!
Leo.

hey, congratulations on your new award! :)
Very very well done, I can't add much.
Just trying to be picky, I think the door gag is a bit too long an takes the attention away from the main motivation which is to catch the butterfly. And even though it's obvious you didn't need facial expressions to tell the story, I would have loved to see some animation on his face, would have been even funnier I think.
Fantastic job, let's see what's next...
