View Full Version : Character: Low Poly Soldier!
davids 06-02-2003, 10:10 AM Hey everyone, unemployment does give you 1 thing.. free time! Here is my most recent work. The concept is not mine.. it was done by James Hawkins. He is an amazing concept artist. Check out his concept here:http://www.hawkprey.com/tweakydad.htm
And below is my 3d version. Enjoy.

The crit:
It looks kind of flat. You should put it in some enviroment. Some shadows. Make the hair bigger. The deformations on the polys looks strange. Like on the boots and arms.
The good:
Awesome textures. Ingame quality.

Hey this would be great monster in Wolfenstein!
Nice work Dave!
Especially since this is your first low poly model.
I would like to see him posed like he is in the concept drawing.
My only crit is that the texturing on his pants seems a bit underdetailed, especially compared to the great job you did on the metal parts. If you look at the straps on his legs, it doesn't look like they are effecting the cloth underneath.

Hey Nice moddel there, dave is it? i like the look, very indicitive of the shooter genre of games. although the hair could use a bit more to liven it up i feel this model has captured the essence of your future employment,

Spend a little bit time on 3 point light, i'd say add a rim light, it'd showcase the model even more, looks great though! how much time did you spend on it?

Hey David,
Like i told you before, it looks great, but I still say that the hair needs some more work. Other than that I don't really have any comments. good job and keep up the good work.

Eggsister: good suggestion with the rim light I'll try that out.
Criscoon/Pixel_pisher: im gonna play around with hair i think larger clumped strands will look better.
Ski: that tutorial was great thank you!

Hey Dav, I like your low poly model!:bounce:
Im thinking maybe smoothen the character's arms and thighs would make him looks more dynamic.:bounce:
Keep up the good work and good luck!

thx for all the comment and critique guys keep em coming!
How does he bend over?
He's got a solid plate on this chest and waist down to his groin.

neil: well I didn't design him but I have tried posing him bent over and he can grab something on the ground by rotating around while on 1 knee. I would think this guy wouldn't wear this armor all the time... he would just go into battle then take it off. If you notice the cable holding his gun to his armor.. so if he lets go of his gun it won't fall. I will be animating him so you will see what kind of movement I'm able to get out of him.

zastrozzi: animation... I will be doing all primary cycles you see in FPS .. run walk jump shoot etc. maybe a little story piece too.. well see how it goes.
Berserker: I'm thinking about it but it isn't my design so i'm gonna have to get permission before i enter it.

Great to see some of us are still churning out some apres school work. Looks good David- ready to stomp some heads. Nice textures and good low poly count. His gun arm does get some weird deformation though. Now go hiking:bounce:
