Title: Audi R8
Name: Dan Moore
Country: United Kingdom
Software: After Effects, mental ray, XSI

This is my first car model. I love the design of pretty much all Audi cars so this seemed an obvious choice.

This model was been brought to this point over the last few months during little patches of free time.

I think I have learned a heap from doing this one so hopefully the next one can be better.

Comments and crits welcome.

GeoLOu - thanks very much. I had a look at your version it looks great.

souledge3 - Thanks very much, yeah I know there are soooooo many R8's out there at the moment. I started it ages ago and by the time I had finished there were billions. Still, I love this car!!!

As requested, here are some wireframes.

Once again, would love some comments and crits as I really want to get better at car modelling.

Cheers!

Good start, DM. At a glance it is quite convincing.

I think the way the bonnet lines up with the front grill is too angular. The bonnet should curve into the grill. I think it is easier to see on this still of a matte black R8:

And possibly the bumper around the rear exhaust should have more shape to it, like a soft extrusion.

Ta Stu,

Yeah, I see what you mean with the bonet. Also agree with the rear bumper. Hopefully I can get away with rendering a patch for those pieces or an update on my laptop might take the next year to render!! :D

The only bit I was unhappy with is the brake lights. Not sure how best to get a "glowing" edges in the plastic housing. Other than texturing it ............ thought i should try and get the shader to do it. If anyone has an idea would love to know.
