They don't give a very good reason.
Lame

I heard it had to do with Daniel's play, Equus. Supposedly the play and film would have been coming out at the same time in New York, and they didn't want publicity for his play, which is adult themed, to conflict with publicity for Harry Potter, which is geared for a younger audience.
In other words, they don't want billboards of a shirtless Daniel for Equus, next to billboards of Harry Potter.

In LA, on the radio, they said it was to make more money during the summer months. Whether that is true or not, who knows.

That's exactly what I heard as well. I was extremely disappointed with this news, especially given the reason. Next July is going to blow my mind though. New Terminator flick AND Harry Potter 6?

Well that's a load of crock. That's really stupid and not very fair on anyone. Twats.

their excuse was that the writers strike is going to leave somewhat of a void next summer and they are hoping to take advantage of that by releasing the new HP movie then.

the writers strike
Those gits need to be publicly lynched. Ruining things for everyone who watches T.V./ goes to the movies just so they can fight for sums of money that they don't even know specific details about (like, how much the sources of revenue would actually generate in the future).

Actually, he's already done Equus in London. There were photos in some of the tabloids, even here in Montreal.

That's right. In fact just did a google search. Let's just say Harry Potter has changed forever.

These movies just really feel more like fall/winter movies.
I was hoping they'd get back into that schedule, and I was looking forward to the movie.
The studio said that the last flick was only surpassed by the first in revenue so they've proven a summer release, but I'd love to see the ticket sales on those instead of revenue and how different they've been for these movies depending on seasonal release times.
