Vector artwork is resolution independant mate.
He can actually choose the raster resolution if he磗 about to rasterize it.

sorry to interject a bit of cynicism...it is nice, but as anyone who works with illustrator alot will testify, that really wouldnt be difficult at all if it was just a trace.

I believe tracing a single photograph into maybe 300+ closed paths, and still make it photobelievable, is an extraordinary task that deserves nothing but praise -if well done (Which in this case does)-

I use Illustrator almost on a daily basis too, and I also know how to do trace work -heck I do it all day- and yet, I wouldn磘 tackle such a massive amount of bezier handling to try to go for a photorealistic work. Please do not undermine an artist effort mate.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. It's probably my own ignorance and looking at all the extatic reactions I'm missing something, please tell me what. To me this is a copy of an original picture of a half naked girl either quickly traced or painstaikingly copied. Either way the result to me looks tthe same. A copy of a picture....

If this pic has been build in Illustrator the sheer magnitude of the job is asthonishing, but at the same time I wonder: why should you? What's the benefit, where lies the creative profit over the original.

Could anyone please enlighten me, cause I must be wrong. You all are not just extatic because she's looking fineeee!!!

I would say he has a far better knowledge of Illustrator now than before he started the project. The real creative profit out of this kind of art, is just making it.

Do you need a profit? As far as I know, there磗 always a profit when you finish a piece. :)

its far from photobelievable tbh, the hair is very impressive from this resolution...but i fail to see the need for 300+ closed paths when good use of the gradient mesh would do the same task.

Looks really good....

Just two crits, maybe just resloution problems. The hair looks too stringy, it only has two shades, real hair has at least 3-4 to look realistic. And the shadow on the neck seem to make her neck look too bulgy in contrast to how smooth the rest of the image is, but these are just being nitpicky.

Looks great. Want to see it in color....

are you using those mesh color tools here? or are you aculay creatingpaths for the shading?
any chance you could share a screen grab of her paths?

I also do some Illustrator work, and even if a photograph referance is used, to create a pic ina vector format that looks like that , with the shading is not easy task. Picture referance or not its amazing.

xynaria
06-03-2003, 04:27 AM
At the end of the day what is different if:

This was inspired by a photograph and produced using the photo as a visual reference in Illustrator

This was traced directly over a photograph in Illustrator and shaded

This was actually a photograph placed in Photoshop and filtered

This was actually straight out of the imagination and through Illustrator

This was a real girl stood in front of someone who drew and shaded her directly in Illustrator

???????

The fact that some of you are questioning whether any of the above apply would indicate that to some of you that the process is the highest priority of this image... not the image itself.. but how it was done and by what method(s). Presumably you can only be affected by an image if it fulfils your (possibly own, possibly shared) conception of what is classed as a 'legitimate' source or skill set not what is 'emmanating' from that image.

Now I know that a large part of posting anything on here, for all concerned, using any 'process' is for a skill set as much as an aesthetic to be commented upon but in a case such as this, if that bothers any of you so much, then I would say..innocent till proven guilty.. which is often the opposite approach persued by many members of this board.

Maybe an additional guide to posting note could be added that in the interest of all, that if anything was heavily referenced that it should be indicated what and how. :)

The reference picture and the final are different... I think using a reference made this picture be as great as it is. It's very simple.

I think some people wondered why would you make a picture like this cuz it doesn't have a scene or anything like that, but I think she brings out a purity. The colors, her being nude, her expression ... she just looks pure and I think the overall picture is good.

Kinda bothers me the reference picture was not taken by the artist though...? correct? but... I don't know, the final looks so good, lol

Heh that's fine, everybody his thing.... But it is common courtesy to grant the original maker of the work the credits for it..... He in the end created that moment when 'there suddenly was something, where nothing had been before'.

But instead when asked, you didn't even want to show the original, someone else had to post it.

I'm sure the artist who made the picture for the advertisement would love to read this thread. Since the reactions on it are probably just what he wanted to evoke when he made the picture.

Yes, it took an artist to capture that look, the tenderness in the first place.

But it takes just as much of an artist to recreate and in turn, recapture it.

Yeah, so maybe he should've shown his reference. I don't think he ever said he never used one. Everyone here knows a lot of work went into drawing her; probably just as much as a 3d model of the same variety.

So why are some people ripping on this guy when the majority of good photoreal 3d models - of people in particular - use a photo reference? :shame:

This is awesome work, plain and simple.

Cheers and props.
