Nice stuff. It was a great party and I'm looking forward to seeing how their rendering tech is received by the CAD guys....

The solidworks guys seem to be digging the renderspeed.

Wow, that is some pretty big news. SolidWorks is one of the biggest names in CAD on the Mechanical side... while MicroStation is a fairly popular one on the architectural side.
This has got to be in retaliation against AutoDesk which seems to continue to gobble-up the competition and invade every corner of the DCC/CAD world.

I wonder why they didn't license MR as that is already used in CATIA V5..

SolidWorks does have MR "integrated" but the workflow isn't as straight forward and simple(from what i heard), so they license Nexus rendering technology.

I personally wish Luxology would just focus on the Poly modeling technology instead of rendering.
Don't get me wrong, I think Modo is one of the strongest modeling apps IN THE WORLD but they don't have it all when it comes to efficient modeling.
I hope to see more of the reverse engineering or re-topo tools.

Well they probably made / will make more money off those licensing deals then just selling modo to artists.
The solidworks / microstation market is HUGE!
I personally wish Luxology would just focus on the Poly modeling technology instead of rendering. With the addition of animation (limited as it may be), I think we can see where Luxology intends to go with Modo now. They probably want to enter the same market as Maya/Max/XSI/LW/C4D as a complete DCC package.

They already were using mr, mental images did the photoworks ehmm "integration" and they want to get rid of it. Not to consider that with the massive brain-drain that is currently happening at mental images it makes double sense to find alternative solutions.
And I understand them, good choice because Modo's renderer is probably the best interactive tool in the market at the moment as per usability/quality/speed.

ps - I also have to say that at Siggraph Vlado showed me privately the upcoming Vray interactive (core 1.6.something) and I was pretty amazed: good work there too.
