Title: The Legend of Ram
Name: Vivek Ram
Country: India
Software: 3ds max, Maya, Photoshop, VRay, ZBrush

Sri Ram is the warrior hero of the Indian epic , "Ramayana".
He is also deeply revered as a God by Hindus all over the world.
The legend says that he fought the demon lord Ravan with the help of an army of vanars(monkeys) to rescue his wife Sita.

I've been on this piece for a really long time and finally found the time to finish it. Was kinda bummed to notice that my monitor at home wasnt calibrated right, the contrast seems to have got messed up., so I'm hoping this looks ok to everyone.
Base modeled in maya, detailed in zbrush, rendered in max/vray with color correction in photoshop.

model and texturing looks very good,,

,but there seems to be something wrong with the hand holding the arrow,,it looks like he's throwing the arrow from this perspective,u mite wanna bend those two fingers,,,looks straight from here,i know u have bent the thumb and put the arrow inbetween the 2 fingers,,,but the impression of the thumb being bent loses focus from this angle and is giving the idea of 3 open fingers.and what are those things behind him by the hundred's,,,ppl or plants?,or the monkey army?,they don't look clear,
and you mite wanna move him bcoz the rock below his feet give an slight clear distraction as if he is perched on that rock ,, is he supposed to be sitting on the rock?,if he is one the rocks,,,or is he far from the rocks,?,or is he in the air?,,
and u mite wanna refer Indian swords,,,the sword looks kinda gothic.Indian swords were sorta angled.

HEY ! i have been following ur blog on this model for quite some time now and i am happy to see it finished man! You do put in a lot of effort in ur stuff  ..And awesome stylisation to Ram.. I actually kept looking at his face for some time and must say .. initially it looked western .. but no .. its really lookin Indian and a strong Indian Warrior now.I like it more cuz i feel that the character and emotion in the model jumps at me..
But yes i do agree on other fronts with animatoor, if i do nit pick that the leg seems its perched on the rock .. but then its dusty n far ..so not really too ..

thanks a lot for all the comments!:)

here are a couple of screenshots of the model from zbrush

and here are a couple of raw renders. These are before all the post work in photoshop.
Since the work was done for the full illustration, couple of these might not hold up too well on closeups. nevertheless, here they are..:)

Believe me or not among all the renders(including the final image) i like the grey-scale render (with strong backlight) the most. It shows your truely awesome modeling skills and emphasizes the strength of the character. I dont think you needed all those fancy background things in the scene or any kind of textures, in my opinion they only distract the viewer from the central character!

I would love to see more of the greyscaled stuff with strong contrasty lights and ofcourse without the skin textures. Great work .

wow! Great work Vivek! I love the image. Congrats on bringing out the feel of our great epic. I have a couple of crits though....
-I somehow feel the mouth is a little odd. Seems like he is casually shouting. If you push the expression a bit more, it might convey his anger better.
-I thought lord Rama was blue ;)

Otherwise a great pic...congrats!

Really good, but i forgot to mention his hair last time, this style looks very carribean beady crumpled hair type, and i know super heroes with wind blowing in the air is cool,,but he is still a religious icon., so sorry but i seriously think deviating too much and experimenting with faiths, beliefs, and religion and its scriptures is bound to create such C&C. I think as artists, we need to be careful not to experiment with ANY religious icons.

i don't wish to sound like a religious maniac of some kind, but i'm sure they had barbers then,,this just looks a lil too messy.

i believe that art is a form of freedom of expressing one's self , but it is also the freedom the onlookers have while looking at the artists work without hindering or hurting their sentiments in any way. :), If artists feel that such concepts hamper their creativity, then they should also invite such comments with open arms.

I m sorry i had C&C it this way,ur work hasn't hurt my 'religious sentiments' in any way ,but this will only encourage scores of unsensitive people to depict many religious icons of many religions in many other ways,,,and that could seriously hurt religious sentiments worlwide.

Rain: Thanks man...thats a real compliment! But this was started as an illustration so needed to be finished like one although modeling is my core skill. Will try and post more gray renders soon:)

vasishtr:thanks for the comments man:)...well I guess the expression kinda dulled down with the textures.....and blue....i would call that ancient stylisation:)..the books call him the darker one.

this one for Rainroom:)
just puttin up a few gray scale renders of the model. The model was built for the illustration so u'll probably notice the lack of focus on the accessories as compared to the details on the body.Hope you like!(large image warning!)
