View Full Version : Villan and Prisoner Dialogue test

This a lipsync animation that I'm currently working on and any and all constructive critisim is appreciated. I'm currently doing the first pass of animation and the only thing I'm already aware that needs to be fixed is the movement of the Prisoner's right shoulder/clavicle.

Your villain character is waaay to stiff imo. It seems that his hips don't move at all, which is draining the life out of him and making his performance less than believable at this point. The guy sitting down is better, but still very stiff. Since your still in blocking you might consider going back to the board and devising some way to liven them up a bit without veering too much off of your original choices. If you bring this into polish it's going to be develishly noticable. Figure out a way to get those hips moving, weight shifts, a small step, etc. will help a lot. What's the line from?

Thanks JayG, i agree about the hips, I'm gonna add a weight shift towards the begining and then probably add a small step movement for the villian later on in the animation. Finally, I'm also gonna add a leg movement for the prisoner. Also, the line is from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, I got the audio from dailywav.com.

Right on, sounds good. Just remember that pixel lock sticks out like a sore thumb in 3D, keep them alive! =)

First of all, sorry for taking so long to update, got kinda swamped with work and life, anyway here's the update. I've finished the 1st pass on the villian character and I'm still working on the first pass for the prisoner. I've also made sure to add a frame counter. Also, for some reason the last 13 frames got cut out during compression in After Effects, I don't know why, hopefully I can fix that the next time I render out of After Effects. I appreciate all feedback and all C&C is welcome, In fact, I encourge people to make as many critiques and comments on this as they want. I love constructive critisim!



JayG: I've taken your advice and made sure to add some slight hip and leg movement to the Villain character. You were right, he looks a lot more alive now. I also added some leg movement to the Prisoner character as well. Thanks for your advice.

Couple things I plan to do for the animation.
Pass 2: work on arcs and secondary motion.
Pass 3: Facial animation, Eye blinks, Eye animation, Lipsync.
Pass 4: Polish, misc tweaks, camera movement.
I'm also thinking about toning down the leg movement in the beginning for the prisoner. I also think I might need to lower the camera slightly so the hands and feet don't get cut off. Tell me what you think guys!

After getting some feedback from several animators, friends and other random people I have changed certain details for this animation. Hopefully this version is easier to read and is more entertaining to watch. All critiques and comments welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't have a higher resolution version available online, sorry, hopefully youtube quality is good enough. As far as what I've changed I basically made the Villain(foreground guy) less stiff, and I have switched the focus on the hands later on in the animation. As usual, all crits and comments are encouraged. If all goes as planned, I should have the final version up on Monday.

Well, I have finally finished this animation. First, I would like to thank everybody for all their feedback and critiques, I greatly appreciate all the advice that you guys have given me. Also, their are two versions of the final render. One is more saturated, and one is more faded looking. Also again, I still welcome all constructive feedback about the animation. Both animations have High Quality viewing possible on their youtube pages, it's up to you whether or not to view it in high quality. There should be text in the lower right corner saying watch in High quality for those interested. Enjoy.

Overall, I would say I'm satisfied with the final outcome. Granted I still wanted to add more polish and to change up a couple poses, but time is up and this is what I've got. I'll just make sure to take what I've learned from this animation and apply it to my next piece.
