Joril I know how you feel. It feels like something out of a post apocalyptic movie where people have to fight in pits for salaried jobs.

Well the competition IS fierce ;) Have to admit tho, it's a bit weird ;) but don't let that take the fun out of it, think of it as a challenge or something :D

This proves it!

It's not "what" you know but... who?

Oh, heck, it's all a crapshoot anyway. Right?

All those ads with stipulations about working in the industry for 3+ years are bunk!

Er guys relax a bit :) it's not going to become a standard or anything ya know... it's just a deal EA and Digit has. Do you *really* think all major studios would access one's skillz by a mere challenge opened to everyone in the general public? no. So just take it for what it is, a once in a lifetime thing as they state. You all are too serious heheh

anyhoo check the official Q/A site http://www.digitmag.co.uk/forums/msgs.cfm?msg=325&forum=1

I can understand how all of you must feel, However you must keep in mind that the contest's prize is only for the interview that MIGHT get you the job.

My opinion is that if the contestent is good enough to get through the interview on his own merits he must deserve the job.

Out,
Don

umm has it ever occurred to anyone that the normal process of applying for such a job constitutes just such a competition?

DreamWorks Animation is conducting just such a "competition" right now, and there will be a number of "winners!" I suggest you apply!! :D

lol mark your right on the money there i think.

If you ask me i reckon they just arent getting enough reels sent through the door.
The competition IS to send in a short reel, and its almost as if they are trying to limit the kind of crap they get sent through too.
They are explicitly asking for 5 walkcycles, model renders or a flythrough of a game enviroment/level.
This is nothing but a trendy way of getting more people to apply and giving a lot of information about what they are looking for.

What gets me though is that they are asking for the source files :P So lets see, they are giving ONE person a job, and just using the rest of the applicants models and animation clips for their next game :P

If you dont like the sound of this competition then you could always go for a tougher one like mark just linked for you :)

I could imagine they're asking for the source files entirely because they're concerned that the nature of their solicitation will invite people who might be unusually ready to borrow work from places they shouldn't...

given how few constraints there are on what people sumbit it's obvious that they aren't seriously thinking that they could build a game around someone's submission. They're not going to let applicants' portfolios dictate their choice of game for their release schedule.

I know someone who worked there as an animator and said it was a bad place to work. A lot of egos to deal with and you basically are treated like shit. Try for the US or Vancouver studios. Much better people who know what they are doing and give some respect to their workers. Stay away from EAUK!
