Hiya all,
for this assignment I chose to do a gunfight. (its an action sequence) I did lots of research by watching tons of Cowboy Bebop, Advent children, Princess Mononoke, Incredibles, etc.. Just to get a good feel of fight/action poses. Still alot to learn tho!

I'm using the default max biped cos I cant seem to find a decent action char rig out there. Hate that you can't manipulate the graph when using biped.. also, are there IK controls for the biped? I havent really figured that out yet..

Anyway here is the 1st part of my blocking for this clip.

I do need help with the final pose in this clip.. wat happens is that her gun gets shot out of her hand. The pose I have right now isn't strong at all., and I cant seem to find any references either.. any suggestions?

(I've attached a render of this last pose just in case)

Hi all,

I've uploaded my vid to https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q01HQk01Qk41aWJ2Wmc9PQ you can download it from there, but it will only be hosted till 7 days from now (24/08/08) so be sure to get it before that!

sorry for the lack of updates, been busy with other things this weekend..
I've just done up blocking for the rest of this clip.

So far, I've only placed in key poses and have not yet gone on to inbetweens/ overlap yet. The poses can be improved, what I have right now is just some quick poses to sell the idea. Timing, likewise can be improved.

Unfortunately I wont be able to work on this tomorrow, so we'll see what we can get out on weds.

Cheers

might refine the weight and timing between the drop and the gun reloading...

Hi all

Ok, I've gone back to redo and rethink the timing and poses for the middle parts of the clip. Here's a quick preview.

Again, you can get the preview file from here:

Sorry, I don't ahav a mov compressor so I'm unable to create the preview in mov! I'll prolly go get one soon tho

Things I've done:
- Poses are more refined. You should be able to tell more clearly what is going on.
- Timing is a little more improved, I'm taking note of the texture of the timing, trying to create a balance of fast and slow
- Big actions vs subtle actions (As can be seen between her jumping about vs loading her gun
- There's also more story telling with this clip as compared to the prev ones.

Let me know what you think.
Cheers!

Timing is off. Everything just happens so fast it's hard to tell what's going on. The weight is also exaggerated too. When she drops in, it's almost as if she weighs 3 tons. It needs to be smoother motion like she is cushioning her landing with some leg muscle resistance.

Hi all!
Many many thanks for all your interest and comments, they've really helped me to pinpoint my errors and weaknesses.

With regards to this clip, what I found wanting was
1.) The timing of the seq was just wonky (Thanks for pointing out). Some parts felt too quick, some parts felt too draggy, and overall, it was difficult to watch (because the timing wasn't strong enough to represent so many actions clearly in this one seq)

2.) Because the timing was off, the clip felt alittle too long or dragged out. There was no 1 main idea or focus to the clip (I'm sure this can be improved given more time and effort)

Therefore, I made the executive decision to trim the clip down such that there was more focus and better timing.

I'm confident that with more time I can complete my original idea (and do it well), but for now, and since I've got other clips to work on, I'm satisfied with this.

Thanks again for all your interest!
My next clip with be acting again. Do check back soon!

Here's my latest. I couldn't resist so I had to finish the clip..

The running part at the end isn't refined at the moment, but I hope you enjoy what you see!

Hi all

I've managed to put together a run at the end of the clip. Right now I'm still not too happy with it, it looks slightly clumsy. But I think I'll keep it like that for now.

i've learnt alot from this clip. Mostly to do with action seq being ALOT about studying everyday movements that we take for granted. (Like running/walking transitions, falling, getting up, ect)

Here's the final preview. Critiques are always welcome. I love them

Thanks for keeping interest! will be back soon
