View Full Version : Ring of Power
Goldeneye 06-01-2003, 06:58 PM I've been forking on this picture for a while without any reference photos. Just recently I checked out the scene on the LOTR DVD that inspired it and noticed a bunch of stuff to change.
The ring looks too big. I'm going to add the chaing around it so hopefully it will add a bit of size perspective to the image. And yes, I know the ring doesn't glow in snow, but it looks cool.:) Also, if anyone knows how to make realistic or just better snow for a close up shot, I'd love to know how.

lovely perspective.. and i love the snow texture near to us...
a few crits though
1. ring isnt shiny enough
2. the writing doesnt have the right effect as the films (not necessarly a bad thing)
3. the ring only shows the writing when exposed to flame or the hand of sauron... so as an image it confuses me...
other than that...great work

I like the composite, the only thing is the perspective. The ring looks larger than what it really is. I recommend you add something that shows its real size, like a hand, or a foot next to it. Just a comment... don't forget to take into account what Hardnox said.

your ring looks huge cause there are tiny ass pebbles around it... maybe if the rocks were big like normal rocks, instead of grains of sand.... lol, you get what i mean... also, the ripples or crevases in the snow are very small... you have everything so small, that it makes the ring look abnoxious.
but your gold material needs work, and I dont remember the ring being so skinny...
but good start!
keep up the good work!

Yeah. This was just an early image. I noticed the ring looked huge and I've been meaning to make the necklace the frodo had on in the movie to add some scale. The Snow is tough. I have no idea how to make it so any help would be great.
The writing... yeah I know it only appears in flame, sauron's hand, every rainy tuesday, etc... but how boring is a regular ring in the snow.
Oh yeah. The skinny ring... I realized this too after I opened up my LOTR DVD and looked at the close ups of the ring. Oh well, not hard to change.
Thansk for the C&C guys/gals.

An interessting picture so far! Perhaps the stones should be bigger! Also, I think the contrast of the inscription is to hard! And perhaps it could be a little more golden.
Should be great with chain and so!
