Hi, this is an image I've send to Exposé...

I'm not enterely satisfied with some aspects of the image, but I didn´t have time to improve it, Exposé entry deadline is today! :)

But, at least, I got the feeling I wanted when I started it. I'm a horror movie fan, classics better :) ...and Creepy comic too, and decided to make a Creepy comic cover style image.

Please, tell me what you think

thanks for the comments!

suttercane: ok, I'll put a bigger one in my webpage...check it tomorrow!

Badkarma: I used 3dsmax 5.1 and Photoshop 7 for the tweaks, the grass is Grass-O-Matic and for the trees I used Xfrog.

It looks good, but there is stuff missing and stuff which could be tweaked..

Firstly, stuff that could be tweaked.. why are all of the tombstones similarly tilted? It's too cartoony or b-movie-ish.

The composition is all wrong.. There aren't any trainlines which make you look at the 'right' thing.

And the 'right' thing is missing.. what do I mean by the right thing? Well, let's imagine that the carcophagy (spelling?) was open instead of closed, and slight markings on it, and the whole scene semed to be drawn into that dark ominous unknown place as if someone was in there, waiting for us to get a little closer, a little more curious.. that would be the 'right' thing which I'm talking about. The image you've shown us seem to focus on a bright and moonlit stairs.. not very disturbing..

pluses:
- The models are great, with nice textures
- The lighting is good, could be better, but it's good.

minuses:
- The grass is horrible (could be because of lighting or thickness)
- the placement of models is wrong
- The composition is all wrong
- Nothing really disturbing to look at (needs that oomph)
- the dimensions of the image itself could be better (try playing with the lens of the camera for fun effect).
- needs work. ;)

I am of course not criticising your skills or your person, only offering my opinion on this particular picture, hoping that it will be of some use to you in the future. :)

Kashgarinn, I agree with you in some aspects, specially the grass, but I had no time to make it better before Exposé deadline. I will try to improve the image when I have time. But I like the composition...
and for the tombstones... :) ... I really wanted to make a B-movie style image, not a real world copy. But please, visit Highgate cemetery in London...you will see the 90% of the tombstones tilted...maybe the zombies made that!

Thanks to all for your comments!

It's true -- if you visit an old cemetery like Highgate the tombstones really ARE all crooked -- they subside in the wet climate. But they also have a lot more detail than you've got here, with railings and elaborate statuary. London's Moving Picture Company used to have a great cemetery animation on their demo reel (don't know if it's still there, but it was very spooky). I think some of the criticism is fair of this image, and I do think your composition could be a lot better. Why not have the moon partially obscured by something -- either a tree or part of one of the tombstones? Choose a lower camera angle, which creates a sense of tension. The sky is very open, and there isn't much of a sense of foreboding, if that's what you were after. It's a fairly good nighttime image of a graveyard, but it doesn't have much atmosphere. Bring the overall lighting level down so you get more contrast between your lights and darks too -- there isn't much mystery because you can see everything clearly. Nice modeling and texturing, but this image could be much better with a few small and relatively easy changes.

great work! It has a Chronicles of Amber feel to it, by Roger Zelazny .

Thanks for the reference about London's Moving Picture Company, SteveDavy. I have seen it, actually you can only seen 5 seconds of the cemetery, but I know what you mean. Many of the mistakes of the image was for the lack of time to get the image before Exposé deadline, but I'll made another version of the image soon, now it will be easier with your comments.
