View Full Version : End point must be on start point on the same edge when using Split Polygon Tool?
HONG KONGer 06-01-2003, 02:33 PM I created a polygon cube, I use Split Polygon Tool to make a triangle on one face. When I try to click the "end point" on the same edge where the "start point" is, the "start point" will automatically move to my "end point" when click on the edge.
My question is, is it possible to end at different point on that edge? How?

when you click on a edge MMB to move were its going to add a vert. i dont know if that is what you mean. if that dont work check your settings in maya for its edge snap, oh wait im on maya 5 i forget what the settings are in other versions. but try there.

I think you don't get what I mean.
As I stated, I want to create a triangle on one face, so the "end point" means the third point and the "start point" means the first point.

It sounds like you could mean one of two things. If you're trying to draw a triangle on it, as in to manually turn a quad into two triangles, why not just draw the edge from the lower left vertex to the top right vertex on the face?
If that's not what you mean, then as far as I know that's just the way it works. If you want it to be different, perhaps stop drawing in the edge before your start \ end point, which will it 3/4 of the way around, then you start drawing a new edge from there so you can do what you want from there?

Oh what the hell I was saying, I'm trying to create a trapezoid like the one in the picture, not a triangle. (Sorry!)
The problem is that when I use Split Polygon Tool to start the first point on the TOP edge and when I try to end at different location on the same edge, the first point automatically move to my end (fourth) point.

just hit enter when youre half way through and make the rest in a new ploy split action, that should work fine

oh that
well if you want, if its that important to do.
you could select your edge and Subdivide options levels 2
then just split tool to them verts booyaka!
