Hi, Iīm wondering which is the best way of mapping a four legged character? A character like an elephant or similar. The problem i got is how to do the seams from body to the legs.

For proper mapping I used cylindrical mappings(plus unwrap uvw, when needed) for legs and body.
Multi Subobject does not work really, you alway see the seams.
It worked with blend material, mix maps and composite materials, but it is long annoying work. I used maps for the mixamount or opacity, to get a smooth blending between two materials (body to leg for example). Is there an otimal way to do this quick? Did not find any tutorials on this.

Or would this be something to use a 3d-Painter ala Deep Paint?
Just flatten the whole creature in one big mapping, and than paint it. Havenīt tried any 3d Painters yet really, but i think this should be their big advantage, to paint on an flattend uvw mapped object without having to worry about seams?

Thanks Schnupps

Try using cylinderical mapping for the legs, box or cylinder mapping for the body and a cylinder for the head. At the top of the legs you can use a white to black gradient as part of a blend map so that the map for the legs gradually fades out into the map for the body. If the two areas are similar colours it shouldn't be too bad.
