head and arms are veeeery good job, i think, so don't get depressed... :D
the shell seems too long and heavy for me, but i don't have any reference, maybe you could post the photos you took so we can compare it with something...

Looks good...i'm thinking for the shell the bumps on the back shouldn't be so big...try reducing the size and then using a tool..not sure which program you're using.......to make the lines in the shell a little more prominent and not so spread apart....like the one below:thumbsup:

Remi

Or you could just paint a bump map

I think that the problem is the union between one bump and another, in the real tortoise the unions are very abrupt, and in your model are smoother... maybe you could try to make the bumps as individual objects each one, like you did with the border of the shell... just an idea

Darakusan
06-13-2003, 04:39 PM
OK.. thanks for the idea..
that's wat i had in mind too....
cos i'm afraid it may look too abrupt.. that's y i choose to do all in 1 piece...

Well been playing too much gamez....
nvm that, erhm i tried redoing the shell with every bump as an object..... dun like it.. went back to the old shell and did more tweaking... kind of settle down with it now, will be working on the base real soon..

@Darakusan

Well... Your textures could need a bump map.... to make the shell a little more rough....

Just an idea though...

Cheers

Looks like you're steadily getting there! Just a comment about the texture - in the photograph, the tortoise shell seems far more black than the brown you've used so far? Also from the photograph, the shell itself - the lumps on the top, should they be a bit more pointy? Keep going, I'm certain this will keep on getting better!

hey Darakusan
I think you're doing rather fine! I'm a learning noob si I can't really help ya out much. Not sure but it looks as though the center row of shell scales is too spaced apart from the side ones.

I think you'll get more replys if you post bigger pics showing more detail as the ones you have posted seem kinda small for really looking at your work. you should also post non-rendered wires.

keep up the good work :)

Max Particle : Yup, indeed i'm using a little brown now, but fear not, that's my base color and can be changed anytime in photoshop, and thanks for your comments!

Meka - it won't look so spaced apart after i added the texture. And thanks for the advice!

on the pics the shell looks more like black instead of brown and they have a red dot under those yellow lines at the end of each "spike". the modelling is excellent btw

hehe seems that my brown is still not dark enough ^^ it's almost reaching black.

Anyway about the reddish spots, i intended to add it when i'm adding more details such as scratches etc.

Thanks for your comments:applause:

Hey, that is a really great model of a tortoise, mate.

Perhaps I can help with your problem with the shell. It seems that your bumps (scales) are rather too rounded. If you could lessen the curvature of the bumps, to make it more flatter so that the bumps would be more like flat cones, that may help your model look more like your pet. What i mean is keep the base of each scale as it is, lessen the roundness of the sides to be flatter, i have a diagram, but i cant add it here, if you would like it, pls send me an e-mail. I'm sure this would help your shell to look more like your real pet :)
