what kind of mesh is this?
and did you assign any materials or did you change something on the default lambert?

It seems like you have the Shading option "Backface Culling" checked on the Panel menu. Like this, Maya won´t shade the back faces of polys. Try turning it off.

have you got uvs for that? a few times like last night for exp. my model was see through in places, i had to give it texture projections for it to stop being stupid, maybe that will help other than that check your custom polygon display backface culling sounds right .

model have their own texture.
I had turn off "Backface Culling" option.
all the model still have visual prob.
btw,the model I opened is downloaded in 3dfestival.

well haven't had any xp in modeling with maya for later mirroring but as an lw guy i'd say 'are those double-sided polys?'...perhaps i'm totally wrong with that...don't yet know how maya handles this kind of stuff

click on your model -> open attribute editor -> render stats -> turn on double sided
