Beautifull picture! I love the colors and the atmosphere but it seems that the car is flying (because of the darkness of the tires blending with the shadow I think) Good Work:buttrock:

Wow .. the car is great ! but together with that environment the coolnes just multiplies with 10 !! :buttrock:

would love to hear about how you did that "flaming brake disc seen through the rims" - effect ...

hai...great stuff there....i think the reflection is too high and it would be abit wierd to have the car without a driver inside.
mind showing us the wireframe.....

That pictures real nice and all, but theres no driver in the drivers seat. Or is it an RC car ;)

06-01-2003, 03:48 PM
peeps, you're great :scream:
thanx

Kel Solaar: right, the car ist almost taking off :D

for the brakes i painted a redisch texture for the heat + my break disk textured, uv-mapped on the disk

that's it

bye

EDIT: it's the japanese version with the steering wheel on the right side ;)
(but the is no driver too, as the reflections of the window would cover it anyway)

Great work aYs. I really like environment colors. I wanted to ask how many polys you spend on environment and now when i see wires i'am even more courious about environment polycount :).

Brake discs heated looks like very nice touch but hmmmm techincaly car would need to brake very hard to get that effect and from this image it looks like car is sepedingup or driving with constant spped ? And if he is braking so hard we would see some steam under tyres also :).

Only thing what i don't like (this is just nitpicking) is that rim spokes aren't visible at all ? Did you used too big motion bluur or the are too fast ? It's pitty 'coz form wires i can see that rim spokes are very cool

One more time - great work

the poycount of the tunnel is 48.000 as i use sub-d for most of the parts
(the whole car is sub-d too)

i don't know about the technical thing of glowing brakes but i saw this on several pics without any smoke

i guess this happens when you brake slightly over a long distance
i don't know

the wheels are spinning very fast so the motionblur blured the spokes away
i will render some more pics later without any motion

thanx lewis

It's a great piece, although with a few flaws.

I honestly think the car is too reflective, and not properly reflective. There's no evidence of a fresnel effect on it, which takes from the realism quite a bit.

Then the glowing brake discs... it's a cool effect, but in the wrong place... disc brakes will only glow like that when they become VERY hot, as in when there is heavy pressure applied to them (stopping very suddenly from a high velocity). In your picture though, the car seems to just be moving right along, that makes me wonder why the discs would be heating up that much (it takes a tremendous amount of heat to make them glow like that).

actually there is a gradient for the reflection channel that goes from 15 to 80 %
but i have to admit that it's not very obvious
i don't know why it did not work properly
maybe the environment is to bright

the brakes issue:
please have a look at this image
the car does not seem to brake heavily neither
audi (http://www.supercars.net/Pic?s=3&p=2002_audi_r8-800x600.jpg)

well, nobody's perfect :scream:
i'll try harder next time

I must greatly agree with the previous poster.

1) reflections. ALready the fresnel effect was mentioned. The reflections should be stronger on the surfaces curving away from camera and the least on the surfaces facing straight to camera.
(If you look at table standing on plastic floor from a distance you see the reflection but almost from above you see nothing.)

In max you can reach this by applying falloff to reflection amount. There are different ways in different software.

This thing is very important for "car paint look".

2) the glowing discs. First of all they would seem more appropriate if the car was more in racing atmosphere. The straight road doesn't give impression of extreme manouvers just done. Secondly they are way too hot. If you tuned the color red it would be already far more realistic. This is kind of smart ass commenting but I believe it makes a difference.

and the environment is cool.

ok, one more

http://www.ays-arts.de/gallery/lw7/s15comp03.jpg

well, i think i'm getting close to "photorealism"
however i'm not there yet

what do you think?

Bjolletts
06-14-2003, 10:39 PM
Sweet ! The match in lighting conditions and reflections are freakin great :p

The wheels gives it away though. IMHO if the wheels are "fixed" it could pass for a "real" car :D atleast among non-3d-freaks ;)

Pretty steep street there ... San Fransisco ??

Woaw!! It's amazing! I love The 2 Images!

the fisrt one is artisticly really nice! I like the brakes disk :)

and wow really Photorealistic the other one!! what did you use to render that?

I dont really know, maybe there is a little problem on the top of the car, Its hard to tell, it's like there dust like the otherr car, but ,.. i dont know,. I cant help you,.. :hmm:

Bjolletts
yes, the whells don't look good
i tryed to fix it a bit

i don't know where it is
the name of the image is lombard hill

JonC
i tryed a new method to create the paint and improve the shading
it works pretty good

i used a gradient in the color channel set to "slope" (lightwave)

anyway, it took the whole to get this result because i tryed several environments

what about the top of the car?

thank you guys
i appreciate it

That is a very very nice render, good all around, but its missing just one thing... a nice fat intercooler!! that would complete it =]

congrats on a job well done, consider adding the intercooler tho =D

aYs

well, I'll might add an intercooler :D

I love the glowing discs. Looks like it's about to thunder past the camera car and it's slammed on the brakes to stay in the frame, and it's rock hard suspension has kept it level.

Great work.

That is amazing :bounce: I think you should make the car look 'sharper' so it will actually look more real, in the last picture, because I can easily tell that you took a picture of the ground and then put the car on there.

Your first pic is absolutely remarkable...The reflection is a TADDDD bit high, but nothing to make a big deal about it...

The rotors are INCREDIBLE...It matches the color scheme of the car so it goes well with the feel of the render...I see no problem with that at all...

It's amazing bro, truly is man...A+++ work..

I love that environment...makes the car look uber.

The only thing I could crit about the last 2 renders is that the paint looks washed out...very kewl....:buttrock:

Hi aYs

I left about 6 months ago, but I used to be. I still moderate the message board sometimes.

Yeah, Tiesto is a big favourite at GC.

I woudn`t agree with that. That audi is racing special and racing brakes are very different from road ones. And the audi looks like it is braking. At least to me.

If you put it to red, dark red, it would look more realistic. I bought a car, which was long standing, so the brakes was messed, and when I run it, front right brake didn`t push back, so I was braking all the time, and it was quite from high speed, but the disk was red, not orange, that way I think, that in serial car (not racing) brake woudn`t be that bright.

Also, in a clear day, you will not see glowing brakes, you`ll see it only in night, or when there`s a lot of shadow from disc.

Anyway, .... great work. I like it a lot. Hope you`ll improve it, to show us one of the nicest cars here :)

That is so cool,i love the feel of the first image, the second image is pretty good, but the third is pretty easy to spot that it's cg.

As for the glowing brakes,You could always say that that car of yours has Carbon braking disc, wich don't have to be very hot to glow, just touch the brake for a bit at high speed and they start glowing, porsche uses those 2

Stunning image, maybe a little more motion-blurring would be a good idea (Your car seems to be a VERY fast one!).
Where did you learn all that? What is your favourite software?
By the way, your websites are awesome, they are now added to my bookmarks. Prost
