Did MAX crash and take the file with it? I know that's a problem for some, although I don't think it's ever happened to me.
If it just up and dies then I would consider checking your computer somehow. I'm thinking faulty RAM, or bad harddrive, or whatever techmumbojumbo you can throw at it.
You can prevent loosing too much work by saving incrementally. You'll end up with a shitload of files, but at least you can't loose all your work because a single file gets corrupted, or deleted by a simian army, or whatever else tends to happen up there north.

the thing that has happend to me a lot now is that I save the file, after that I close max and it crash. Some kinda error. U have probly seen it if u have used max for some time. But the files dos not get destroid every time. I used to save a lot but not latly. Is there some kinda a system in max that will save the file for ex. every 3 min.? That would help me

Yes, you can set the autobackup to 3 minutes and 10 files, that way you never loose much work. When you are making huge scenes it does get kinda annoying when it saves for 10 sec every 3 minutes.
Another tip is to never use the crash recovery file that Max saves when it crashes. Most of the time that file is somehow corrupt, even if you don't notice it immediately it can give you trouble in the future. So set your autobackup to 3 minutes and work with that if it crashes.
When your max crashes everytime on exit there is something wrong with your installation, I have never heard of that problem.

It's funny. I've been using max for a long time now and I've NEVER had max corrupt a single file on me. Not once. I don't even know what the error dialog looks like.
So thats got me wondering... is it all warez copies that do that? Seriously, whats going on?

Nope - I've had it a few times on my legit copy of max - Mainly got to do with modelling and the e-poly object in max 4. A lot of the time it's also an unstable plugin - seeing as a lot of stuff is hacky in max to get it to work I'm sure a lot of stuff fights...

I got the student ver. so I dont think it is only warez copys that do it...

Luckily I've only had corrupted files once or twice, but I've had crashes much more often. As for what is going on: if I knew that I would fix it....DUH!
Most crashes happen when I push my machine a bit too hard and do something unexpected.

I was going to say the exact same thing. The few times that I've had MAX files go belly up I chalk up to user error. I usually was doing something stupid at the same time. :)

Right, I've had crashes but not a single corupted file. Just curious that's all.
