I was just about to start messing around with textures on a ball, when on my first render (all I did was give it the default surface.) I get theese blocky shaded areas on the ball where it goes from light to dark. I have 2 lights in my scene so far. both are lamps one witha ray shadow and 1.00 energy, and the other with no shadow and .30 energy. I've never seen that blocky shading thing before.

It actually does the same thing when rendered in Yafray too.

Now that I think about it, Cones and Cylenders tend to give me a similar effect.

Here is a cone with no middle segments.

Now that same cone with 5 cuts.

Hmm I have no clue what could cause these artifacts. This is definetly a bug. Best to fill a bug report in the tracker at projects.blender.org

Actually, I just updated my version, and it fixed the problem with the sphere. I then found out that for the cone, if I extrude the bottom part just a little bit it fixes the entire thing.
