Go to the link for details, but this sounds like a damn cool idea.... surprised no other laptop maker thought of it.
(and yes, tablet PCs are an even more integrated version of Wacom+laptop, but not everyone likes tablets)

err just read the specs..it's a QUAD CORE! laptop!
first one i've seen...wow so how come apple don't have a quadcore imac yet if you can make a 17" laptop with 4 cores?
nice to see quads moving into the laptop area finally!

There have been quads before, but they're desktop chips I believe rather than ones designed for laptops.
Not sure how hot that means this is going to run...

That's not a laptop... it's an 8 lbs desktop replacement.

i guess us left handed people are shit out of luck...
even if the touch pad turns off automatically when you are using the Wacom, the second i stop drawing, my hand will be on contact with the touch pad causing the cursor to move.
fail.
for the love of god, someone put a [good] wacom tablet behind the monitor of a tablet pc, until then, good day sir!
I think I mis-typed when it came to the thread title... laptop is not really a good description. Portable is better since this is a heavy, and probably very thirsty computer.

how many left handed laptops you think they'd actually sell in an effort to make a profit on the manufacturing part of it?

put it in the middle then, and do away with the touch pad. Im a lefty too. A hell of a lot of artists are. (the best of us :D)
The drawing area looks alil too small for any decent use. but at least right handed people will be able to keep thier hands on the keyboard.

More than they will now. Although this half-assed implementation is hardly going to fly off the shelves anyway.
If a picture's worth a thousand words that monster's its own obituary. :D

Looks dont bother me. Im more of a function over fashion guy. With electronics at least. Give me a cheap functional laptop over a sexy overpriced gizmo anyday. And to be fair i wouldnt mind giving this a lil road test. I wouldnt shell out for it though cos i already have a tablet pc which does me dandy.

I wasn't specifically panning its looks in that quote. From my perspective it's not serving much of a purpose over that of a much lighter, much more portable notebook and a seperate A5 tablet, nor is it selling the idea of combining the two with any particular ingenuity.

Got a chance to have a play with this W700 today at Siggraph. It's tablet is surprisingly responsive in photoshop - didn't get a chance to trial any 3D apps with it though. sadly it has been designed strictly for right-handers and the pen has only one button. Also, since the thing is the size of a small aircraft carrier, it's not a very practical portable device, but those specs are insane!

They should just license the cintiq technology and make it a detachable/tablet style...
Bugger the mini pad, when these days the touchscreen wacom tablets should be good enough and cheap enough for laptops for widespread adaption. Forget handwriting, i want full Intuos style but on the notebooks screen.

So it's clearly a desktop replacement and not a laptop, right? So if you're going to be setting up your mobile office, why not just throw a Bamboo in your heavy-ass laptop bag? Or use a tablet? A cintiq laptop would be great but this just seems kind of pointless.

1/10th to be precise.

I would content that percentage to be much higher in the kinds of professions and hobbies that would have use for a wacom.

I have certainly noticed a higher percentage (higher than the global average) of lefties in this industry. Same for dyslexia. Let's face it, artists are a peculiar breed. :arteest:

very nice looking laptop. shame about the no left handed model, though. i had a brief discussion with a lenovo rep at siggraph about it. not too likely they'll release a lefty model. ah well.
