Zerox01 08-12-2008, 02:17 PM Whats the best way of creating beer as a texture IE in a beer glass.
I thought about using water then tiniting its colour ? but the liquid is not the same in real life?
Any info would be usefull as there are no tutorials for scanline render and i cant use vray.
Thankyou

Sorry I was going to give you an answer but I appear to have drunk my reference.

You are going to need a shader that changes color based on density of the liquid (translucency), since this is pretty important for many of these rich colored liquids like beer and redwine. Getting the color right is pretty crucial. Depending on the type, a typical lager will be light yellow, but as the body of liquid increases, it becomes warmer in color and takes on a richer yellow hue.
You'll also need to simulate the carbon in the beer, this can fairly easily be done with a particle system. The bubbles would be air, so they need the IOR of air.
Lastly you need the foam. This is a bit more difficult a material. You need a translucent material that fits the glass yet is bubbly. Perhaps you could use a particle system, or perhaps you can get away with mapping with a texture. I've also experimented using a cellular bumpmap, but the result isn't too impressive up close.
